2011 passers, no experience. ANY suggestions or anything we can do to start our proffesion. i'm really confused and clueless. please any nurse here who has a job tell there story on how they start. do I really need to train before I apply as a staff nurse. do i have to really join the PNA. PLEASE.PLEASE.PLEASE.PLEASE.PLEASE, shed me(us) some light thank you very much replies will be VERY much APPRECIATED :):D

I'm a 2009 passer and yet me and some of my friends are still unemployed. With the memorandum against volunteerism has been implemented by the DOH, I think the only practical things that you could as of now is to attend training and seminars. LIke getting BLS, ACLS, IVT etc form accredited and renowned hospitals in the metro. PNA membership on the other hand is a total waste of money (my opinion). We were required to have our membership last 2009 because of the oath taking tickets that we purchased at the PNA office. After paying for the membership, the only benefit that you will ever get from it is the PNA ID which is a requirement in some of the training/seminars such as in my case we were asked for it when we took and applied our IVT training/ license. I wasted another membership payment for this year because I was suppose to apply at PGH for their APCN and it was required to have a valid PNA ID. I never really got anything from the PNA, no updates, news, help ( in terms of finding a job opening) etc. Yes they do offer seminars in their office and I think they give out discounts if you're a member but aside from it, based on my personal experience, I never gain anything from the membership, nothing but an ID. :)

Hi, where did you had your training for IVt?, yeah actually i didnt apply for the PNA membership cus i read here and from other post that it really is not that important, and kinda thought since its a membreship I have to pay annually or something but do members really have to pay? Cus some of my friends already joined, BTW did you try trainings before?

You are only required to pay for the membership if and only if you are in need of the PNA ID which expires every year. I had mine at Chinese General Hospital under GSN company I think, forgive me for my memory it's been a while since I had that training. It's quite expensive compared to what other hospitals offer but in my opinion it was worth it since food and snacks are included plus the lectures, demo and materials as well. Their lectures are located at West ave (that's where their office is), IV instructors are all from Chinese General Hospital and their really good, I had fun and learned a lot when we ere sent to CGH for our hands on cases, you get to do all the required cases unlike in some that they will only let you do some and give you instant cases. You paid for it you might as well learn from it. :)

I had my BLS at Red Cross the decided to have the ECG Recognition training at Philippine Heart Center. I decided not to take ACLS yet, then had my volunteer work at Gat. Andress Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center in Tondo Manila for free of course then had my OJT at East Avenue Medical Center and still I haven't receive any call/news from them.

I get really frustrated at times that I'm still unemployed but there are a lot of nurses out there who took so many paid training and never land a nursing job. I even had a friend who took a CardioRenal Training at Phil. Heart Center and paid like 20,000 I guess plus her other trainings at prestigious private hospitals and still didn't get hired.

Woah, actually im dont realky want to train where in i have to pay, cause it makes me feel cheated as like what other say exploited. Thank you so much for you informations :). So i really have to train first before applying for a job? :D

still volunteerism is one good way to start your career (onli in da pilipins). Just make sure you are maximizing your time, effort, energy and environment. Ask. ask. ask. It helps to polish our skills.

Gosh its really gonna be difficult looking for hosputals to train. Btw guys do you know anthing on how to be a company nurse? :) cus im really interested with that, i read that i have to attend occupational sumthing-sunthing first:confused:

yes you have to, without a job experience the only credentials you can brag about in your resume and your interview aside from your license are the seminars and training you've attended. Those stands as their basis of you being competitive and knowledgeable. It's hard to compete nowadays with our fellow nurses, a backer has always been like a golden ticket towards landing and a job and the only thing that you can use is the knowledge and skills you have that you'll eventually gain through training and seminars. :)

A minimum of 1 year experience is a requirement in terms of being a company nurse. Some company requires an occupational nurse training of some sorts which you can get from TESDA I think but you have to pay for it and from what I've heard, it is a little bit costly. In my opinion, it would be wise to get one if you have a company you can apply to that will hire you once you attend the said training. :)

PNA should have atleast a newsletter. i wonder where the annual membership money goes.. i honestly believe its a total waste of money

Howdy matty2011. :D PNA membership isn't really required unless the hospital you're applying for requires it. Trainings like IVT, BLS, ACLS etc will give you EDGE over any other applicants who don't have the training but again it's not mandatory. Undergoing these trainings ins't a guarantee either that you will be hired faster than anyone else. The application process is a long and tedious process...you can take BLS and IVT trainings while waiting for a call from the hospitals you sent your resume to.
