Passed NCLEX-RN with 75 questions using UWorld and LaCharity!

Published

I wanted to share my experience on how I passed the NCLEX the second time with 75 questions :) I hope I can help those who did not pass the first time or maybe those who are about to take the NCLEX their first time! Because I came straight to allnurses for tips/advice when I didn't pass it the first time and it lead me to the right direction on how to study.

Ok let's get to business. So the first time, I got all 265 questions and didn't pass. What I used the first time to study was: HURST and UWORLD. Now...don't get me wrong...I LOVE LOVE UWORLD, but I just wasn't taking proper notes the first time. When I took notes on UWorld, I wasn't reviewing my notes. I mean, I would skim through my notes, but I wasn't really reviewing all of it. I was just so focused on doing as much questions as I could in a day, and not on the rationales Uworld was providing me, and that was a BIG mistake. So when it came to the NCLEX, I recognized some of the questions, but couldn't remember important information of the subject because I didn't study the material sufficently. HURST was helpful but it was just a lot of information, and I couldn't retain it all. It just didn't help me question answers that involved critical thinking.

So second time around, before I started to study all over again, I took a 1-2 week break. Study materials I used the second time: UWorld and LaCharity :Priortization, Delegation, and Assignment book. I read a lot of good reviews about UWorld, and I also really liked it so I decided to use it again. Now this time I changed the way I took notes and where I studied. The first time, I would take notes on a notebook and studied at home; the second time, I took notes on FLASHCARDS and studied at the library. This helped me SOOOO MUCH. I would review the flashcards everyday before I started my questions. I studied for 3-4 weeks for about 8-10 hours each day (I would give myself one day off to relax). The first week, I was scoring 45%. The second week, 50-55%. The third week, 60-65%. The forth week, 70-85%. So each week I was improving and it was because I really focused on the rationales and took really good notes on them. I would do about 75-100 questions on UWorld each day and after doing UWorld questions, I would then work on LaCharity and do 1-2 chapters a day as well (I only got to Chapter 12) And again, I would write my notes on flashcards. I did have a lot of flashcards but it was totally worth it  so when it came to the NCLEX the second time, I was a lot more confident in answering my questions because they were SO similar to UWorld. If you do all of Uworld's qbank and really study the rationale you will kill the NCLEX! Because Uworld covers basically everything you need to know to pass the NCLEX. I couldn't have done it without UWorld!!!

I hope this helps ladies and gents! If I can do it, trust me, you guys can do it (I was a Low B - high C student in nursing school:confused: )

What was your total average in uworld the first time you used it?

So my scores the first time would jump around. From 45%-50%. SOMETIMES 60% but it wasn't consistent. The second time, my scores were more consistent. Once you really read the rationale and try to understand why you got a question wrong or even correct, your scores will go up :)

So, we're student/nclex twins and I'm really excited because I've been meaning to find someone in a similar situation as me, having used Uworld and not passed. I knew I didn't use it correctly but I still felt like nothing I used (Hurst or Uworld) worked. I was honestly simply depressed about the whole thing.

It sounds like I'm still not using it correctly but I really would like to just take the nclex again and give it another shot, mirroring your study technique if I am unsuccessful, yet again. Good luck!

Hi nursing twin! :)

I know exactly what you mean! When I didn't pass the first time, I felt so dumb bc I used uworld and I read so many good things about it. But like I said before, I wasn't studying the material correctly. Honestly, don't give up on Uworld! Keep doing their qbank, everyday. I felt that doing flash cards helped me so much! For example, when a question covered a question about a topic I wasn't familiar with, I would put it on the flash card. Then I would test myself with the flash cards that I made everyday. Once I finished all the questions, I went back and did the questions I got wrong so that I would familiarize myself with the topic. I know you will get it the second time! Please ask me any questions you have! I would love to help!

Also, the second time around, I didn't review Hurst. It just wasn't doing anything for me.
