Hello Nurses :)
So I felt the need to get on here and share my raw and uncut experience with studying for NCLEX and passing. I feel like when people get on here either one they have high scores on their practice tests and make those who are not scoring so high feel a little discouraged (not on purpose). Two.. people worry too much about what the scores on their practice test are and fill themselves with doubt before giving themselves a true chance.
So let me start by saying it does not matter what kind of student you were when you attended nursing school. People can be at the top of the class and still fail this test. PLEASE do not compare yourself with others! Trust me when I say I struggled through nursing school at times and passed this test with no problem and no it is not a easy test! As long as you have a grip on core content and you have pretty good test taking skills you'll be fine especially if you PRAY about it.
The two things I used to study were Hurst and Kaplan! ( I studied for 3 weeks)
Kaplan is pretty dang hard and let me tell you my practice test scores were all over the place being as low as 36% which only challenged me to do better each time (which is the whole point remember that!!) Not only did it expose me to content I needed to refresh on or maybe never have studied, it showed me what I was doing wrong test taking wise!
A lot of people don't like to use the decision tree but I'll say this when in doubt don't be afraid to pull it out! lol Believe me it'll save you with some questions! Also read each rationale for questions you got wrong and right! It really does help.
Hurst was my other studying tool!
I didn't fill out the worksheets but I did listen to each lecture a couple of times until I felt comfortable with the information. ( I'm a auditory learner FYI do what is best for you). After listening a couple of times my Kaplan scores begin to improve as high as 71%.
So I'm here to tell you this keep your studying simple and focus more on test taking skills more than you do content ( refresh but PLEASE don't over do it) Oh and FYI KAPLAN teaches you how to answer questions over content that you may not have heard of its all about skill and using your nursing judgement they use higher level questions and after using the test bank you'll be thinking like a nurse for sure. lol
one last thing PRAY PRAY PRAY PRAY and trust GOD!!!
