So I have been reading posts from this site for months and swore that I would post
when I pass Nclex.
The first time I attended Kaplan class and did the 5 week study plan, but the
first week was in class so I tried to do all the Q trainers and Q banks in 4
weeks. My scores were averaging 57-60. I was told that I was good to go. I also
used Saunders and Hurst. I got 3 SATA's in a row to start the test and I
freaked out! It just went downhill from there. I felt like I didn't know
anything! I got 75 questions and knew I had bombed!
I went home and got in the bed, I was so depressed. I later went out for drinks. I
knew needed a new strategy, so I came back to this site to see what people did for the 2nd attempt. I started
studying content in Kaplan again, but this time one section at a time and tested
on that section only. I did not make another test date. I had rushed the first
time, so I decided that I was going to take my time. A friend also referred me
to a tutor. I spent 2 hours with her. The info she gave me on how to " think
and apply" what I knew made a big difference. I also made flashcards. My pharm
scores went from 56% to 72%, then 84%! Two weeks before my test date my scores
for Comprehensive tests were ranging 84-96%! Ridiculous, right? I moved on to
LaCharity PDA. I did all 21 chapters and practiced questions until I was over
70%. I also used Saunders CD and did SATAS over and over. I decided not to tell
anyone when I going to take it again. This cut down on the anxiety. My second
test was never ending and I had to endure all 265 questions! I took breaks and
mentally pretended that this was just like ATI and I needed to concentrate,
take breaks, eat snacks and pray about every 60-70 questions. When you get 265
questions, they throw everything at you, so don't skip over anything thinking
you won't get any questions on it. Got the good pop up, but wasn't sure it
worked. I'm in California, so the pop up looks different. I later got an email from
Dept. of Consumer Affairs that the following license was being added to my profile:
Registered Nurse!!! I already had a Cosmetologist with the DCA. It feels great to be done!!!
Please don't give up!!! Do something different and put in the study time!!!! It is hard, but
I will forever be an RN!!!
