Okay, first off I just had to make an account just so I can tell all of you what I did to pass the AANP certification exam. I have to say, I really over studied for the exam, but I guess it was worth it. I started studying in March by purchasing Leik's review book. I highly recommend all NP students to purchase Leik's book early on to help just give bullet points of all the high points that you should know for each system. Next thing I would recommend above all else is to do Amelie's review. While I was taking the exam, I was telling myself that I had to email Amelie afterward and thank her because so many of the questions were EXACTLY what she would point out and some of her review questions were identical!! I did her QBank questions which helped a great deal. Now like I said earlier, I might have over did the studying bit. By that, I mean I took Amelie's predictor exam every month since August and this past two months, I probably took it every other week. Taking the predictor exams every month helped me to know where I stood as far as my weak areas. I did fairly well on the predictor exams, I think the very first one I took I made a 75 and then my last was an 88. I also took AANP's practice exam in August and again right before I tested to review. Some of the questions were identical, I do recommend taking that test. Throughout Leik and Amelie's review I kept a spiral notebook where I wrote down highlights of things that I thought could be potential exam questions. I took this notebook on long car-rides, doctor's visits, you name it. I used that spiral the few nights before the exam and just read through that.
So all in all, purchase Leik's book (despite the typo's and outdated JNC-7) and do Amelie's review. She is spot on with her material. My school provided Fitzgerald's review book and I honestly did try and give her book and her audio CD's (borrowed them from a friend) a fair shot. She goes way over board and talks about things that simply aren't on the exam.
The exam is over basic material and it is not tricky at all. Try not to read into the questions! Very straight forward and easy to get through.
Good luck everyone!
