Passed the AANP exam....Where do I go from here??

Hi everyone! I am new to this site and really enjoy reading everyone's support for each other! I took the AANP FNP certification exam January 30th and passed...YAY!!! I took the Amelie Hollier review course the first of January and used the Leik review book for my studying to help complete each body system. Both helped me tremendously!! Now, as I wait for my official scores and such from AANP to obtain licensure, I am kinda lost as to where to start?? I have not started looking for jobs because I wanted to pass my certification exam first. My questions are:

1. What are good job searching techniques or search engines to help me get started?

2. How would I go about negotiating pay? This they really do not teach in the Master's program...LOL!

3. How long does it take to become licensed after you submit your application with the State Board of Nursing?

4. What other "things" do I need to get started in my career and before I start working (i.e. NPI number, DEA number, etc...)???

Start looking for jobs right away, use all of your network contacts because that is where the best jobs come from, especially in tough markets.

Arm yourself with information to help you negotiate. Know how much your education cost, what average pay is nationwide, in your state, and in your local area. Know what you can bring to the practice in revenue. Know your worth and stuck to it! Ask about licensing costs, CME time and budget, and vacation time.

It takes a week to a month to get licensed depending on your state. It takes a week or a month to get your DEA number based in your local DEA branch. NPI is fast and easy but get a job first. Other credentialing takes forever.

Thank you for your information BostonFNP! I did not realize getting licensed took as long as a month. I have began to look for jobs now and will also use my resources as well. Thanks for the advice! :)
