Hi twu80, I am a lpn currently in my last semester of nursing school. I was planning on applying for the February ER internship. I've read previous posts and see that you recently started an internship in the ED as well. Can you tell me what your experiences have been like so far?
tough place to work, non stop, multitasking like crazy but need to stay focused. Lost one so far, still 16 of us in the program.. Great place to start.

I have an interview scheduled for next week, but I am seriously thinking about removing myself from consideration. Is it true that there is a 3-year commitment after orientation, which essentially amounts to 4 years at parkland? Can you elaborate on the person that left, was it because he/she could not handle the stress? What about the contract? Is the $20,000 prorated?
It is 3 years after the completion of the residency. Parkland is not for everyone. You either love it or hate it, very little in between. Will not lie, it is stressful, fast paced, multitasking on the highest of levels. Focused assessments have to be done quick and you need to juggle up to five patients. It is not easy BUT if you can make it there, nothing in the medical field will ever be this difficult. Challenge of a lifetime.
My interview is for SICU, but either way I don't think I can commit for 4 years. That is my primary issue. I will be removing myself from consideration tomorrow.

I too am having second thoughts with my ER interview this week. I'm from way out of state and was wondering if a phone/skype interview was an option. I haven't seen anyone posting about that option though.. Is the ER residency a full one year? Making it a total 4 year commitment?
the residency is 4 months. the contract starts on the day after you graduate for 3 years. I have not heard of a Skype/phone interview option. it is the greatest challenge you will ever have. If you can do 3 years and four months here, there is not a hospital in the country you couldn't handle. it is that tough of a place but one you will be learning each day.

How was the interview last week? Did they say when they would be making decisions? I'm interviewing this week and I've always wanted to work at Parkland.
How many are thy interviewing for the ER this cohort? I wonder how many they will take on, especially considering the new hospital opening coming up...
