Hi there!
I created this space for those who applied for the Parkland Critical Care Nurse Intern (CCNI) position scheduled to start in August 2023. This internship is separate from the nurse residency application process, and is for new graduate nurses who want to specialize in critical care.
I'm an out-of-state candidate who applied for this position in December 2022, and I just had my interview yesterday. It went really well, so I'm positively optimistic about it.
I wanted to ask, has anyone heard about the program? I'm curious to how different it is vs. just applying for the nurse residency.

Hi! I have also applied for the internship and came on here wondering if anyone else had any knowledge of the program. I found the program just a few days ago and had to rush to get everything in before the deadline. Scared about my late submission but glad I found it before it was too late! Do we know how many people will be accepted for this program? I am also out of state! Did they email you with a scheduled time for the interview or did they just call you? was it zoom?
@alynne315 Hello!
So from what I was told, the internship is a 18-month training program with a three-year contract. It's supposed to be a very intensive, structured training program that produces really proficient & confident critical care nurses. It's a nationally recognized program and the training prepares you to work in any critical care setting.
The internship pairs you with an instructor, and you'll get to rotate through all of Parkland's critical care units: Trauma ICU, Burn ICU, SICU, MICU, Neuro ICU, Cardiac ICU, NICU, and ED. What's really cool is that you get to pick your specialty after experiencing all of those units.
I was told by the program directors that they are accepting around 14-16 people for this internship.
I sent my application mid-December, and had my interview on Microsoft Teams around two weeks ago. I just got a call last week with a verbal offer! I think they'll be sending out the official offers in early March. Good luck to you!
Congratulations! That is so exciting for you! Hopefully I will be joining the club, keeping my fingers crossed and will keep you updated. I wish I had found this program sooner, it's exactly what I am looking for, internship of my dreams! Once again, congratulations and thank you so much for the information!
@alynne315 Good luck to you as well! Maybe our paths will cross!

Has anyone else who applied for the internship been contacted yet?
@cyd_elise When did you apply? Have you interviewed yet?
I applied around February 12th. However, there was a glitch with the application packet being sent so the full application probably wasn't in until the 19th-20th and I have not interviewed yet.
@cyd_elise It took over a month for them to contact me after I sent in my application, and official offers haven't been sent out yet, so I would like to assume they're still interviewing people? I don't see a reason to rush offers since the program starts in August. Good luck to you!
