Park Plaza Hospital in Houston?

U.S.A. Texas

Has anyone heard of Park Plaza Hospital in Houston? I always get it confused with Parkland in Dallas. I saw a review in glass doors.com that they still do PAPER charting? Is this true? Did anyone here had their clinical rotation there or have work there?

What are you opinions on working at a for profit vs non profit hospitals? I am getting ready to graduate and I would like to have some info for my future career options. Please reply!

I believe it's a Tenet hospital. I've never worked there, but I did work at a sister Tenet hospital. Pros: They offer a GN residency that's great and they pay $10,000 student loans with a 3 yr contact. It's somewhat relaxed compared to the large magnet hospitals.

Cons: it's not up to date with the trends, equipment...etc (older hospital, not a research facility with breakthrough ideas...). We were very understaffed and due to the relaxed environment the staff had poor work ethic with no oversight or discipline. Also, they'd try to make us attempt to keep up with other facilities without the tools to do so (ie: "Baby friendly " with only a part time lac consultant and no space for rooming in.

I would say a decent place to start, but Def don't plant ur roots.

i hear that a lot about private hospitals being understaff and such. I will keep this in mind as I plan my future career goals. May I know which sister hospital is it? Do they still do paper charting?

It's mandatory that all hospitals go to computer charting by the next year or so...I don't remember the exact date...the sister hospital just converted to Cerner about 2 years ago. I'm pretty sure park plaza was lone shortly after, but not 100% sure

Tenet hospitals in Houston are park plaza, cypress fairbanks, and houston Northwest :)

and they are a union by the way

I havent heard of this until now. But I think it will be a good idea to have that mandatory. Thanks for your input! What do you think about Cerner? I am not familiar with this type of electronic documentation. Is it user friendly?

Is it true that for profit makes you work more? For example, the nurse to patient ratio is above what a nurse can handle?

May I know what are the differences between unionized vs nonuniozed? Is one better than the other?
