This is just a post about things i or others have heard parents or patients say. I had a mom in last week who sdaughter was a new pt from out of town. The girl needed her immunizations but mom had brought no records with her and was not real sure as to when the last immunizations were or what they were and insisted she needed her 15 month old immunizations never having seen this child before and no records I explained to the mom that with out prior immunization history I was not going to order any immunizations untill I saw the record. The mom went balisitc and stated then she was going to call 911, god bless my nurse who stated i think it would be better for you to call 411 and get the old pediatricians number and have them fax us the info:yeah:so glad we insisted on paperwork this chlld had no immunizations since 4 mo schedule and that was when she was 10 mo old:mad:

mom brings the 6 month old in with hives, I ask well what has she been eating, mom replies seafood she loves it umm mom it does not like her, her response well what do i feed her then I did lots of education that day. I have no idea who the original provider was who did not discuss this with her

My favorite, 11 year old smashed his hand in the door, after examining his hand i determned there was no fracture oh good he said can i still play wii sure i told him then he stated can i play guiater, mom yells you couldnt play guiater before quit beeing a PIA:lol2:

When I was doing clinicals one day there was a dad that called and said his son had a c in "gym class" and wanted the Dr. to give him a permanent excuse for gym for the whole year so it wouldn't mess up his GPA! Uh, how about making your son participate in gym class!

I am a pediatric urology NP and I was doing an H&P on a school age child with voiding dysfunction. We do a detailed history with the parents to find out when the child is wetting, how often, signs of urgency/frequency etc. It was a crazy afternoon and I will admit my patience as probably a little short. I asked this mom if her daughter had daytime or nighttime wetting. She stated, "in between day and night". Is there another time of day I am not aware of? I went around and around with this mother trying to figure out what was going on with this poor girl and she kept saying "in between day and night". I finally said, when she comes home from school is she wet? Mom said "yes". When she wakes up in the morning, is he wet? Mom said "yes". So, she is wet in the daytime and nighttime? Mom said " no, in between day and night". OK.... let's do a diary for a week so we can figure out what is going on!!! :) OYYY!!! I still don't know what that mother was trying to tell me. (FYI when they did the diary, she was wet day and night as I expected).

Had a parent once on the phone tell me I was TOOO cheerful on the phone. She was frantically telling me what was going on with her child and I was actively listening and jotting down what she was telling me. I guess because I was not getting frantic and hysterical right along with her... she freaked out on me. I was not being falsely cheerful...just trying to reassure the mom but was taking what she was saying seriously. I guess I need to be more curt on the phone???

I work with anothe APN who is my mother's age (her daughter and I are the same ag) who has been there for 15 + years. She is awesome. One of our longstanding patients we have been following since she was an infant (now a teenager) came in for her yearly visit. I had talked with this mother several times on the phone and went in to introduce myself, get her history etc. Halfway through the visit, this mother looks at me and says, "what are you again?" I told her I was an APN just like Susan. She said, "people must be going to grad school right out nursing school these days". I told her, "no ma'am, I was a pediatric nurse for 5 years before I went back to school". She told me, rather curtly, "you don't look old enough to have done all that!". Now I know I look young (I do) so I don't mind people asking me about my education, but when I tell you and you look at me in disbelief...do you think I am lying to you???
