Paramedic To RN

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi All!!!

I got so tired of the waiting list for nursing school that I decided to become a Paramedic (10 months) and then go for a bridge program (Which usually takes 1 year). I moved from California to Arizona to attend Paramedic school. Has anyone in California done a bridge program or taken this career change? Most medics here in Arizona go through excelsior because it is approved by the AZ board of Nursing, but I know I want to move back to Cali. Any info on online programs, or schools would be great that allow California accredited EMT-P to RN programs would be great!

Thanks!

Victor Valley College in the high desert has a new medic-RN bridge program you can check out.

That's another way to go besides the LVN-RN program. I haven't heard of any schools that will let you do the Medic-RN program, but I know that California does let Paramedics become RN's. I'm just unsure how that works. Did you try contacting different nursing schools to see if they will allow you to go in as advance placement student. Good Luck

I'm in Arizona. Can you tell me where you finished medic school in 10 months?

Thanks.

I am doing my 10-month paramedic program through Pima CC in Tucson. They also do an advanced 6-mo. program as well. I am half-way through my 10-month and I couldn't imagine doing a 6-mo. The 10 month is already intense and so much to learn. Good luck!

Hey NursingStudent14,

Napa Valley College in Napa, CA offers a Paramedic-RN program.

Here's the link to the requirements for the program:

I can tell you that most non degree programs in Arizona are **** poor. I am a Degree Paramedic and proud there is way to many Zero to Hero programs in Arizona and would strongly encourage you to take at least a college level Paramedic program for your sake and the sake of my beloved profession. Just my .02

College of the Canyons does a 15 month Paramedic to ADN program. They allow you to challenge the last two semesters which are med-surg. I did consider it, but was accepted to a 21 month BSN program the first time I applied. Below is a link.

^^College of Canyons is no longer offering this program, for the fundings have ended. :(

I am also planning on moving to CA, and I'm looking for a Paramedic - RN program in the SoCal area...If any of you have up to date info on one, pleaseee post it on here, Thanks! I will do the same. :)

Specializes in Emergency Department.

The few California Paramedic to RN programs that I've seen have the people go through a 6 week transition course, and then they're allowed to enter the 2nd semester of the 4 semester program. In effect they're allowed to "skip" just 10 weeks and have to complete semesters 2, 3 and 4.

If you go to the BRN website, you'll eventually find all the routes that can be taken to get an RN license. There are only 5 of them...
