Paralegals/ Attorney

I'm working on an LNC cert now. From what I've found in my job search, it really depends on what kind of work you want to do. If you want to work for an individual law firm, it would help to have paralegal experience. If you want to run your own show, you should get your LNC. If you want to torture yourself with years of law school, become a nurse attorney.

Most LNC programs encourage LNCs to recognize the difference between and LNC and a paralegal. Those lines blur for attorneys b/c they see LNCs and paralegals as assistants and probably a great deal of work will be delegated to both that leans to the paralegal side. If you're hired as a freelance consultant, you're seen more as the specialist than an assistant.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Hi, I am new to this, but a friend of mine and myself are trying to set up our own LNC business. Right now we are bothe working for a lawyer firm along with our "daytime job". Any suggestions?

So I take you've already gotten your LNCC? It seems to me that by your working for an attorney right now, that's probably one of the best things you can do for yourself. For me, I'm comfortable with the nursing aspect of the LNC, but not the law aspect (yet). There's no experience like hands on experience, so I'd say you're going down the right path.

Well my freind and I fell into this situation from another freind who works for this lawyer firm. We had no experience in this area but find it to be really great. She taught us everything and then of course we are also learning along the way. I have not taken the certification exam as I do not have the 2000 hours yet, but I plan to. I went part time in the ER and do this on the side. Thanks for the info on the books.
