Palo Alto VA- any new grads

Published

Do we have any Palo Alto VA nurses on here? Do you know if they hire any new grad RN? Any info would help. Thanks!!

I'm a new LVN grad, licensed late last summer, and work at the VA in Spinal Cord Rehab. If you're an RN, the VA has a new grad program called "Versant", I think. They do hire new grads. I had been working for a month when I got the interview and job offer. Keep in mind that it does take them awhile to complete a hire (Federal beaurocracy). I applied in August, interviewed in October, and finally started the end of December.

By the way, the VA Palo Alto is an awesome facility to work for. The pay rate is at the lower end of competitive, health insurance is OK, but their approach to patient care, technology, continuing education of staff, and vacation/holiday/comp time pay, etc. are great. The Federal retirement plan is a winner as well. Good luck.

I am in sacramento and Kaiser, Sutter, and Mercy are phasing out LVNs..I wonder if the VA hospitals in this area are still hiring LVNS.

I applied to the VA Palo Alto Versant program starting in September. I was just wondering if anyone else had? Has anyone heard anything yet? Any calls for interviews? The waiting is killing me!! UGH!!

I applied and had an interview in early July, I've had positive feedback and been assured that their hiring process is very slow. I think it's a good sign if they ask you to enter your information online in VetPro.

Does anyone have experience with the Versant program at the Palo Alto VA?

- What is the schedule like during the program, and how long is the training?

- How/when you know what unit you will work on? During my interview they stressed that joining the Versant program would ensure a position but they could not guarantee a position on the unit I was interviewing with.

- How is it commuting from SF to the Palo Alto VA?

I've been doing some tests and driving seems faster than Caltrain, is there a VA carpool established?

hiring freeze there...or so they say...I guess it's who u know...not what u can do or offer

For those who interviewed with VA Palo Alto, do you guys have any advice?
