I'm sorry if this sounds like a very silly question. I am from Canada and we have annual leave which seems a little different than PTO.
My question.....
If a nurse is scheduled to work 72 hours/pay period or 6 12 hr shifts/pay period does he or she need to use 14 days of their allowed paid time off or just 6 days of their paid time off to acquire two weeks of vacation?
Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided. Again, I'm sorry if this question sounded silly.

Not a silly question. I hope you check back. Sorry no one could answer you sooner.
We don't have paid "days" off, but paid "time" off.
For example I accumulate so many hours each week added to my paid time off.
If I want a day off, I have to take 12 hours of my PTO. If I want a week off I have to take 36 hours of my PTO. If I'm sick a day, it's the same, I take 12 hours of PTO, because the PTO is used for both sick and personal days off.
In your example, the nurse would take 72 hours of PTO.
Does that make sense?
Thank-you for responding to my question. Your response was really appreciated. I was just wondering how much paid time off you recieve and if you find that adequate.
Again, thanks

I get 8 hours of PTO per pay period (every two weeks) comes out to 26 PTO per year. I believe it's adequate. I also get professional days, for example to renew ACLS, PALS and so on.
