Hi All,I am studying to be an RN.....I'll be graduating in 2006. I'm not in it just for the money, but I do need to have to support a family of four and I'm the only wage earner so I have to plan ahead a little bit.My question is "Do the hospitals in the metropolitan Phoenix area pay and have OT available???"Also, "Is it an option to work three , twelve hour shifts at a hospital and get benefits and then work a twelve hour shift for an agency????"One More, :) "I know a starting grad makes $20-$22, or I've been told, just curious how much an registry nurse can earn???"Anyway, thanks in advance for your answers if you have some and if not have a great weekend!!Just one more question, "Which hospitals do you feel have the best morale, or have a reputation of having excellent working conditions (patient ratio, etc...) and appreciate if they have a caring hard-working nurse or don't care either way???"Sorry about all of the questions:uhoh3: Have a good one!JD

In the Phoenix area, it is yes to all of the above questions. However, please keep in mind that most health care agencies want a nurse with at least two years of experience. You are expected to just be able to walk into a unit and immediately be able to function......................this means almost no orientation, perhaps just a few hours, if even that.................
Worry more aobut completing school and getting your experience in.
Your learning curve begins when you graduate from nursing school, not while you are in it............... :)

I have to agree with Suzanne. Having a nursing degree teaches you to be a nurse about as well as having a parking permit teaches to you drive. The real learning comes after you get out. The sooner a new nurse realizes what they don't know, the better nurse they will become. Oh how I wish I knew as much now as I thought I did as a new nurse 30 years ago! But of course now that my kids are grown they think I am brilliant and they thought I was stupid when they were teenagers, so you can't have it all I guess.:chuckle

There was federal legislation regarding that. At one point it didn't have the votes, but last I heard it did. If anyone knows details please don't hesitate to add. :)
