Pace university NP program
Updated: Published
Members are discussing different options for NP programs, particularly focusing on schools that accept New York State residents. There is frustration expressed about limitations for NY residents in certain programs, as well as discussions about waitlists and the possibility of being accepted off the waitlist. Some users have shared their experiences with specific programs, including St. John Fisher, and the requirements for acceptance.
Applied for the PMHNP program at pace for 2024. Has anyone heard back from any of the NP programs? Still waiting on my decision. And if anyone is already attending can you share your experience? Do you like it so far?
LUCBSN said:I have emailed Simmons and Frontier and unfortunately it seems like it's bc NY state's board of nursing has certain requirements that makes many programs ineligible and that's why they don't accept NY residents. I've even asked if I could take classes with them and just do clinicals in NJ but they told me no.
I ended up getting into St. John Fisher and they have been upfront with me that they will help place clinicals and have a network preceptors in multiple cities. I live in NY now but may move to Chicago to be closer to family and they said they will help place my clinicals no problem (but you have to check bc they can't for some states).
Did you need a crazy high GPA to get into st John fisher? Im looking into there PMHNP program.Â
LUCBSN said:I don't think they specify anywhere on their website but my GPA was 3.4 for undergrad BSN. I got into the PMHNP.
Thank you so much for responding. I applied to hunter and they mention min is 3.0 but I interviewed people that got in and lowest GPA was 3.7 even with no experience so I figured they really look at GPA first.Â
Â
IM going to apply to stony brook but I think they do similar as hunter. and I will be applying to st John fisher. Do you like the program. The counselor told me yesterday classes are synchronous. Is it crazy hard in the beginning?Â

I actually ended up asking to start Jan 2025 instead of Fall due to some life things that I didn't anticipate when I first applied. So I haven't started yet but I will say I've already had zoom calls with an onboarding specialist and my program advisor and they are very responsive and are thorough about taking care of you (it's all online and remote so they understand there's a lot of adjustments and questions with how it's all going to work). I feel good about it.Â
And then just be aware that around 3rd term- they have a pre-clinical immersion which is the only on site required time. Sounds like you spend 2-5 days on person in Rochester in prep before you start terms with clinicals. But you would have ample time to prepare for that since you know about it beforehand.
I've looked at the courses I need to take for Jan and looks like both classes are offered on Wednesdays for the synchronous 90min lecture. And then otherwise you have the rest of the week to be studying/getting assignments done. So I was mostly worried about if I could work my work schedule around it if I had to do class MWF or something like that so this works out fine for me LOL. I'd rather have it all on one day. Can't vouch for if they do that each term though.

I heard about that immersion weekend. I live in NYC so I will be making it a road trip with my wife and daughter. My brother and my close friend want to apply together for SJF, would be nice to do the program together with friends to stay motivated. Im thinking about starting either may or sept 2025. I am getting a new job and want to transition to that first.Â
If you would like, you can email me so we can stay connected. I'll update you if I get accepted into SJF. [email protected]
Thank you for the info 🤞

Yeah im getting a new job that is 12 hour shifts because right now im 5 days a week. hopefully it makes it easier for School.Â

Per class - looks like they're offering them 6:15pm-7:45 and then 8-9:30 so it'd be back to back Wednesday nights. I work 3 12s right now so I can work around that. 5 days a week might still be doable if classes are in the evening! But good you got a 12hr job, might be more flexible.Â
I'll email you, good luck with everything!
Hi! im applied to the fnp program for fall 2025. I just submitted my application now was wondering when everyone heard back by. Im also nervous because I only have 1.5 years of experience working as an RN and my GPA is a 3.6. Those who got waitlisted/accepted how many years of experience did you have?
