the pennsylvania house of representatives voted in favor of hb 834,166-31, this past may. house bill 834 establishes the “prohibition of excessive overtime in health care act,” which prohibits private and public health care facilities, whether for profit or non-profit, and which provide clinically related health services, from requiring an employee who provides direct patient care or clinical care services to work in excess of an agreed to, predetermined and regularly scheduled daily work shift. psna encourages the senate to schedule a vote on hb 834 so that this important initiative can be brought into fruition. “the psna commends the pennsylvania house of representatives on their passage of hb 834 and for their recognition that nurses should not be forced to work unnecessary overtime,” said betsy m. snook, m.ed, bsn, rn, executive director of the psna.
