Overwhelmed by nursing info?

Hi everyone- quick question

I am currently doing my prereqs and I am trying to familiarize myself a bit with some of the stuff I might see in nursing school. I was wondering if anyone else came on the site before getting into nursing school and how they felt about the info they saw? (care plans, drug information, other stuff discussed on this board etc)

I am already extremely intimidated and feeling overwhelmed - like my brain can't handle all this info or comprehend it lol... Is this a sign already?

My best advice is to remain focused on your tasks at hand and handle each new section as it comes to you. In the case of nursing school, trying to look ahead at what you should know is almost impossible.

Things like care plans, drug logs, and nursing diagnoses will make more sense to you after you enter a nursing program and your instructors guide you through.

Continue to do your absolute best with your pre-reqs so you can have the chance at finding out what these new concepts are all about! Good luck!

Don't put the cart before the horse. Focus on the task at hand and the rest will follow. Don't overwhelm yourslef unecessarily...there is a ton of information you will need to know but take comfort that many of us have done it before you.;)

One day at a time one subject at a time. Good Luck!!

I was an "A" student in nursing school. Being organized was key to my success. I always tediously went through each course at the beginning of the semester and carefully noted and plotted out each assignment. I purchased a notebook for each course and taped a sheet to the front of the notebook with each assignment/ test, etc concisely detailed with due dates, etc. It felt so good during the semester when I finished an assignment and could scratch it off the list! :)

I planned out my semester and tried to stay caught up (especially with reading). If I was unable to actually read word-for-word all the assigned reading material, I at least skimmed and scanned the most important areas. Highlighters were definitely my friend.

Along with doing all that, I just took it "one day at a time" and consciously made an effort to not stress over the mountain of work ahead.

Definately stay off the web-site LOL, stick with the subject at hand other wise you'll get anxious, I had the same problem, I started reading nursing books while still taking pre-reqs and was TOTALLY freaked out :uhoh21: you'll get there soon enough. Put on the blinders and concentrate on current stuff

Hi -- I disagree with some of the other posters and here's why:

I have been on Allnurses before I started nursing school while I was finishing pre-reqs. I read the nursing student boards fairly regularly. Although I didn't always understand everything that was being discussed, I read it anyway. If I was really curious I would just quickly look something up or whatever (I have zero medical experience prior to RN school). Anywhoo, I feel like reading this board helped me immensely in getting the general idea of what to expect. I have been preparing myself for the NCLEX since day 1 and this board is the reason for that.

You should definitely focus on doing well in A&P and Chem b/c you need that basic understanding before you even step foot into the classroom on Day 1. However, if you find yourself with some free time, I highly highly recommend surfing the student message boards.
