Overtime Pay for Change of Shift Report

Can anyone explain why we don't get paid for the extra half hour we are scheduled to work each shift for report? I am currently paid for 80 hours every two weeks which is based on a combination of 8 and 12 hour shifts. However, each shift is officially scheduled for either 8 1/2 or 12 1/2 hours.

New law that they take it out automatically. You should be forced to clock out for 30 min. At first they were taking it out automatically every shift. Now they are making us clock out. If we don't clock out then it is the worst thing you could have ever done. Talk to your Manager about it.

ALWAYS try to take your lunch and breaks, unless there is a code going on. This is for YOUR health and benefit.

I remember the days when many nurses smoked, and the smokers never missed their breaks. I rarely took breaks, except to go to the bathroom. So, one day, I went to the lounge, put my feet up and was reading the newspaper. My supe came in to ask what I was doing. I told her I was smoking. No one ever questioned my 15 min in the lounge after that!

When we work thru our lunch and breaks on a regular basis, we are giving away our time. We are paid employees, not volunteers. Make time for your self.
