I've been a nurse for 10 years with experience in acute care, little long term care and management. I have always been interested in wound care and have been offered a job at an outpt clinic as the wound care coordinator. I was told the job is 1/3 wound care, 1/3 marketing, and 1/3 management. I'm a leery in the marketing aspect, as I'm not particularly as sales person, & it sounds like they have been slow and really need to drum up some business. I would still dive head first into the challenge, if it wasn't for the pay. It was much lower than I expected (ex: about the same pay as PRN gigs in smaller hospitals). I will be taking about a $3/hour pay cut in my current supervisor role, and honestly it seems like more responsibility with the marketing aspect tossed in. What are the thoughts of those working in wound care now? Do you find this being typical pay and responsibility?

That's not a position that I would accept. The position sounds like a no-win situation. They want you to do more and more for less. Chances are they won't provide the resources necessary for you go be successful. Are you a certified WOCN?
Thanks for responding. Your right, I’m a little concerned about the marketing budget myself. No I currently do not have my certification. .. It turns out the pay is actually going to be a much smaller cut then I thought, which is a good thing. It just seems to me what they are calling a “wound care coordinator” has more of a supervisor or manager job description (without the pay increase) with the marketing tossed in. Maybe this is the typical scope for a coordinator and I just don’t know it?
