Hello all!
I'm a recently graduated nurse from Massachusetts:nurse:. The job market isn't pretty here, so I applied to a few hospitals in the good ole state of NC. I got a call back from Duke and Pitt County (I applied this past Sat-I'm sooo impressed!!!). I want to setup interviews and take a lil trip down.
So my questions (may seem silly:p!) are:
1) What are some great lakes for swimming and how long does the does the swimming season last (both ocean and lake)?
2) Is NC biker friendly? Any good bike paths you could recommend?
3) Does anyone find that the humidity makes it harder to run? (I've lived in new England my whole life)
These are some of the most important these that will determine where I'll move to!! My bf needs to be near a big city for hsi job., so unfortunately Western NC is out. Any additional info about outdoor activities in NC would be great! Thanks!!

*STATE PRIDE ALERT*
Charlotte, the largest city in the state, is located technically, in Western NC.

But to answer your question lake and pool swimming season has begun ~ 1 week ago. Look at Falls Lake, north of Durham. The ocean may need a little longer to warm up though. But it last longer after Labor Day when most pools and lake close down.
Most of NC is biker friendly. I know in Durham there is the Old Tobacco Trail which is supposed to be nice. I've seen many bike and triathalon clubs in both the Triangle and Triad regions. The Blue Ridge parkway, again in WNC, is great in the fall, but everyone and their uncle is up ther admiring the leaves changing colors.
Prepare for big weather changes. In the Triad we are having 90+ degree weather with moderate humidy. But late July and most of August are the worst IMO.
Anyways congrats and good luck.
Haha my apologies...I should have said extremely western NC (app. trail/Asheville)!
Hmm that's funny, I started swimming up here bout 2 weeks ago, but then again I'm kinda a fish.
Thanks for the humidity warning...that's something I'm not looking forward to!
