Out of state new grad RN considering WA

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I'm an RN new grad who can't find a job or program in california. I'm really considering out of state, and am wondering what is the job market like in WA for new grads? Any help on this matter is welcome. Thanks!

I use to live in Washington state. There were always ads for LTC nurses in eastern WA. I always saw ads for Life care centers. There is a Life care center of Kennewick,WA. There was also a Life care center of Richland, WA. When I use to work at the one in Kennewick they did accept brand new nurses. However, that was years ago so I don't know if they are still doing it or not. You might want to get their phone numbers and give them a call and find out for sure. Good Luck.

It probably depends on where in the state you want to move. What cities interest you?

Here in Eastern WA, it doesn't seem like new grads are having a terrible time finding work. I work in the Tri-Cities - I think it's a good place to live, although not very exciting.

Two hospitals come to mind that have the best residency programs - Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton (just west of Seattle by ferry) and Overlake Hospital in Seattle. They both use the Versant Residency Program which has proven to be extremely successful. I believe they both have information about their programs online.

I'm not trying to discourage you...but...if you are looking for a job up here in Western WA, you will *really* have to sell yourself.

I keep hearing that this area has been burned by new grads from out-of-state getting jobs here, getting their 1 year under their belt, then moving back where they came from.

So if you really want to work here, convince 'them' you intend to stay. And then do so. There are some fantastic organizations around here, worth their while. So plan to stay a while, for your sake and theirs.

My friend from Kennewick said that there is "black ice" now in the tri-cities. I do miss the tri-cities, especially "Granny's Buffet in Kennewick." Florida has crummy buffets.:crying2: I sure don't miss the black ice. Thank Good

ness it only usually lasts a few days. :yeah:

Yeah, we got hit with major winter weather before Thanksgiving. But so did the western side of the state. I haven't seen any black ice myself, but I also don't make it a habit to perpetually drive on slippery roads if I can avoid it!

:lol2:
