Out-of-state student seeking a preceptorship in Austin...Is it possible?

Published

My husband has accepted a teaching position in Austin, and will start this August. This means we (this includes my two young children) will be separated while I finish up my summer externship, and last semester toward a BSN (I will graduate Dec 2012). Either the children will stay with me or with him...we have time to decide. I hate the prospect of being separated, but it is an opportunity we simply can't pass up!

Anywho, during the second half of the last semester, we are required to complete a student preceptorship. I have requested that the university consider allowing me to complete one in Austin so that I can go ahead and get life started in our new hometown. The School of Nursing is actually meeting about it this Monday and will have an answer by then.

In the meantime, I am trying to find out which hospitals might welcome an out-of-state student. This would help expedite the process should they approve.

Does Seton have such a program? Or is there another hospital I should look into until then? Any leads would be great.

In the meantime, thanks for any words of advice!
