Our paychecks are wrong every pay day!

I am the LPN Supervisor at a Assisted Living Facility. For months now a large amount of the staff has been complaining about there paychecks everyweek.

Even though there is someone there hired to do payroll. The Administrator has been involved with doing it. The staff keeps talking about it but is afraid to say anything to him because we have no UNION. People have worked 3 shifts overtime in one pay period. And have only been payed for 5 hours instead of 24 hours. Then when they go to the women who does payroll. She tells the staff to make a copy of there paystub. And when the next paycheck comes. It still is not right. He is paying people for sick time when they have not been out. I try to tell everyone to get together and call a meeting with him. But I only get blank looks. Does anyone have any ideas for us? What can we do? This has been going on for almost a year now. I have been working for over 20 years in nursing profession. And have never seen anything like this before. He even choses to pay us for our vacation after we come back to work.

Thank you. Dbrowneyes

Can someone anonymously contact the Labor Board about this? I once had a former boss withhold my check from me just because he wanted information about my cousin (they were in the middle of a divorce). I simply went home and called the LB. I had my check within 24 hours. Employers generally hate dealing with the feds if all possible.

There is absolutely NO excuse for this to be happening! One of the cardinal rules that every manager should adhere to is never to mess with an employee's time schedule or paycheck.

Let's just assume for the sake of argument that the person doing payroll is making honest, although stupid mistakes. A surefire way to prevent them is for the unit manager to sit down with the payroll person prior to submitting the pay sheets and review each and every employee's time for the pay period. Time consuming? Yes. Necessary? Yes.

If the errors continue despite this intervention then it will be clear that they are not errors, but deliberate shorting of pay. Check with your state labor board, but in that case, your employer may be required to make immediate adjustments to inaccurate paychecks, and may be subject to legal action.

I don't know the hierarchy in your organization, but have you gone to the person above the payroll administrator? If no one complains to his higher up, they don't necessarily know that he's not doing his job. Maybe he's just an incompetant moron who lied on his resume to get the job. It happens. I sure hope it isn't intentional. Good luck to you all.

Yeah, she could be someone without a brain that just got thrown in that position 'cause she accepted the low wages they were payin' (or not payin' and wouldn't know it). :)

When paychecks are consistently wrong I feel its deliberate, not a mistake. My husband worked for one that we had to sit and figure several times to figure out what he got paid. Someone bought the hospital and immediately the paychecks were correct.
