OU Traditional Nursing Program

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Has anyone else here applied to OU's nursing program for the fall of 2009? I was told that I have a good chance of getting in, but I am worried that the advisors from OU tells everyone that. I know that it is a hard program to get into. Does anyone know the average GPA of the people who gets into the program? Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Hi Honeydawn075

I also applied to OU's traditional program for the Fall 2009. Which campus did you apply to? I applied to the OCCC and OKC campuses. I attended the application workshop and some of the applicants that I talked to mentioned that their GPA was anywhere from 3.0-3.5 and they were worried about getting accepted. I think that the average GPA for the applicants is about 3.5, but I am not positive on that. I just remember overhearing people discussing it at the workshop. I have also heard that you have a better chance of getting accepted if you finished some of your coursework at OU, but again I am not sure if it is true.

I would love to know how many applicants they had for Fall 2009. I wonder if they post those statistics anywhere! Well, good luck to you. I know that will be holding my breath until late March/ early April is here whenever I finally recieve my letter!

I applied for the 2009 class. I applied to the Tulsa Schusterman campus first, and the collaborative program second. I think I will get in. I have a 3.5 science average and a 3.3 overall.

I'm a junior on the Tulsa campus. I had about a 3.2 overall GPA, but I had a 4.0 in my science classes. I have a whole bunch of hours from a previous major from the Norman campus, which I think helps. I took all of my sciences @ TCC but all of the other basics (like Comp 1 & 2, History, etc..) @ OU-Norman.

Good luck to you guys :) I remember how stressed out I was waiting for my acceptance letter. I didn't know anybody who was already in the program, so I felt completely lost. Feel free to ask any questions.

Gecko27, good job! What do you think are the other grade averages of people that go there? Also, do you think its difficult to maintain your grade average in nursing school?

I'm not really sure what the "average" GPA was for the people who are in my class, but from what I've heard I think it was in the mid-3 point range. Of course, there's always somebody brilliant who comes in with a 4.0 or something close to it...but most of us had some B's and C's. I don't think it's as impossible to get into as people make it out to be.

Nursing school is hard, but it's manageable. You just have to budget your time wisely. First semester isn't terrible, it just takes getting used to. Get a good planner or calendar because you will be doing something different every day (especially the first 3 weeks or so of every semester). As far as grades go, the worst part for me is the nursing school grading scale (93% for an A, etc...) If it had been that way in the prerequisites, I definitely wouldn't have had a 4.0 in all the science classes.

There are people who go in that had a 2.5 GPA. It isn't all about having a 4.0, if that was the case, all the 4.0's would get in and no one else would have a chance. it is a point system like most other places use, and yes, having taken classes at OU does give you an advantage in applying to the traditional program, but for the collaborative program, having taken most of your courses at TCC really helps. Be prepared to make C's in nursing school. I'm not saying that's JUST how it will be, but I had some fellow classmates that were a little surprised when their pristine GPA's were tarnished with B's, and even C's. Anyway, it is definitely possible to make great grades, you just have to learn the ins and outs, and YES, MUST HAVE A PLANNER. I would die without mine, because I wouldn't know what was coming tomorrow! And be prepared not to get that decision letter until late april. I almost died waiting for mine, and then almost passed out while I was trying to open it!!!

BTW, if you ONLY applied for the Traditional program, I'd call and see if you can add your name to the collaborative list (in tulsa) because if you don't get in to the traditional program, you very well could get into the CBSN, and hell I'd take that over having to wait (well, and that's what I did! lol)

Great luck and hope everyone gets that letter they're waiting for!

I have a question about the supplemental questions on the application?

What exactly do you think they are looking for with those questions?

Thats the only part of the application that I havent finished. :)

Well, to be honest with you, I really don't know! I just wrote a response to what the prompt said and moved on with it, thinking, they can't REALLY judge me from these TINY statements...can they??? lol

I didn't really put a great deal of thought into what I wrote. I mean, I made sure that I wrote about 3-4 well-constructed, gramatically correct sentences. I got accepted, so I would not worry to much about this part. Just make sure to answer what the question is asking and that your sentences have correct grammar and make sense and I think that you will be fine! Hope this helps. Good Luck!
