Hi! I am very new to this site and my first post. Sorry if it is in the wrong place. I am contemplating applying to this program for next June. Does anyone know how the process works? I need to take several pre reqs and was wondering if I could complete them Spring semester before the program starts in June? Also, does anyone know from past experience if the more pre reqs you have, the better chance you have of getting accepted?
Thanks for any info!

I am also new and this is also my first post! I am planning to apply the the OU ABSN program, too, and just wanted to reply so I can see what others have to say. :) I sent an email to one of the nursing advisors yesterday asking some similar questions, so I will let you know what I hear back.
I need to complete the four prerequisite sciences, but I wouldn't have any of them done before the application deadline in September, so I am assuming I will need wait to apply Sept. 2015 to start June 2016. But if the advisor says to go ahead and apply this year, I totally will! I am okay with waiting another year, though, as my littles are 3 and 1 and I think it would be easier to be in school full time when they are a little older.
I am trying to decide where to take the prereqs. Does anyone know if it is very important to take them at OU? I'd rather take them at a school in OKC (I'm thinking OSU-OKC) than have to drive all the way to Norman for two semesters. But if taking them in Norman will make my application more competitive, I would do that!
I am so excited about this program and pursuing a career in nursing! I never ever would have guessed this is what I would decide to do even a few months ago, but it's crazy how things can change! :)
Katie - I enrolled in 2 pre-reqs today at OCCC. I have an appointment with an advisor next week. Let me know if you hear back. :) Maybe we can get some answers here too.
kgdouglas - What did you learn from your appointment? I have emailed several times, but have yet to receive a response, although I did receive an automated "currently out of the office" response the first time, so maybe they were just on vacation. If I do not hear back soon I will call to schedule an appointment hopefully.
Right now I'm in the process of enrolling in some pre-reqs at OSU-OKC. Excited to get started on this!
Katie - she was so nice. I would recommend that you go and talk to her. I have decided to wait until next September to apply for 2016. I think I'm going to start taking pre-reqs at Rose State in the fall. My cell is 405-209-0505. Would love to chat if you ever had a chance.

I'm in the OUHSC ABSN class that will graduate next July.
I did A&P I&II labs, microbiology lab, sociology, stats and developmental psychology all at OCCC. You get preference (points on your application) for each pre-req you already have done. All pre-reqs need to be done by the time the program starts.

How is the program so far? Any advice?
I applied to the OKC campus. I wonder how competitive the program is. The advisor said my stats are competitive, but the 2014 admissions stats haven't been loaded onto the website.
Do you know if the school looks at ONLY the cumulative and sci GPAs, or do they take into consideration your other courses that you took?
Something that I'm worried about is, I graduated from OU, but I took a lot of my nursing pre-reqs at other schools such as OCCC and UCO. I wonder if there's priority.
The program is pretty fast paced (since it's accelerated, duh) but still manageable. I still work part-time and got good grades during the summer semester and in the August intersession class. It's fast in terms of how quickly you start clinicals (after about 1 month in the program) and how little down time there is (you always take intersession classes so there are no real breaks from school besides spring break and this semester we have a test in one class or another almost every Friday.)
It's really important to be extremely organized. It's helpful to me to make of list of all the due dates and test dates at the beginning of each class so I can plan out when to study and get at-home quizzes done. I was also never a group studier before this program, but it helps immensely to find a good study group that you can do projects with and take at-home quizzes with.
I think they only look at the GPA you have for the nursing pre-reqs. I've taken tons of upper division and graduate level biology classes, but they did not care at all about any other biology classes I'd taken in terms of substituting for some of the nursing pre-reqs or as something extra to be considered.
None of my nursing pre-reqs were from OU. I'm from out-of-state originally and picked up all the pre-reqs I was still missing at OCCC.

Thanks outriton, I have been searching for this info as I am starting this coming summer 2017. Was debating if I can keep a part time job. Now did you do your part time work in the summer only? Anything else we need to know like which prof to watch out for, text books etc? and should we expect to start some days/clinicals before 8 and after 5 for those of us with kids? my cell is 508 683 9175 you can text me and I can call if ok with you to answer my questions. otherwise happu holidays
