OT: dental help needed

Published

I have a question about dental work. I need some dental work to be done on me, but I dont have dental insurance. What is the best to do, to get some kind of dental plan (if yes, which one, that covers the most?) or to use some kind of credit service such as http://www.carecredit.com when you get credit for the dental work and then you pay it off?

What is the best way to save money? The dental work that needs to be done is assumed to be about $4,500. Please, share your thoughts and if there any any useful links, please help.

Most dental plans won't cover anything major until you wait out their waiting period. It's to avoid people buying a policy for one month and getting a lot of work done.

This carecredit may be the service my dentist recommended. When I told them I didn't have enough money to cover the cost of the inlay he wanted to do, he said there is a credit service where I would pay the cost of the dental work over a three month period. I didn't check into it because I figured that for three months I would just put my money away. Most dental plans only cover a part of the costs anyways, especially when you get up into the services where you are having crowns, bridges, or vaneers done.

Can you do a little of the dental work at a time and pay as you go? My son does this. I don't know if you can get dental insurance, will they pay if it was preexisting? Better check on it. Good Luck

If you live anywhere near a metropolitan area that has a dental school I would encourage you to check that out. You can often receive care there at very reduced rates.

Good Luck

if you've been going to the same dentist for awhile and have developed a relationship, talk to her/his office manager about payment options. i'm sure there are some out there that will help you. i have no knowlege of carecredit.com. my old dentist (who i went to for years) replaced every filling in my head (they were all falling out) and did several crowns all on credit. i paid as i could. i paid it all off, too!

but if you live any where near a dental school, that might be a good place to start out. they may offer reduced rates. dental insurance will only pay about half of a crown -- so even with insurance, you'd need to come up with some cash.

i hope this helps.
