i often see patients on the floor that have orthostatic hypotension.
what seems to exacerbate it?
is this usually a symptom of more serious cardiac issues?
just curious.
thank you!

it can be caused by many things, dehydration being one.

Hello,
I work on a telly unit as well. I have found that lots of times ortho htn is caused by the patients med regimen being changed. They go see their cardiologist on an outpatient basis, get their meds changed, and then end up in the hospital due to a side effect of a drug they are taking. The other causes can be depletion of blood volume, prolonged bedrest, age related changes, or disorders of the ANS. So yes, it can be a symptom of serious issues, but most of the time, it is due to meds, or sedentary lifestyle.
