Orlando Tech (LPN Program)

Published

Anyone starting in the Orlando Tech LPN program this Fall 2015. I'm so excited and astounded to have been provisionally accepted!!! I cannot wait until orientation and class starts!!

I also completed the LPN program at Orlando Tech and probably right around the same time as empathy. In fact, that person may even be one of my classmates. Pretty much everything she said was true, but at the same time, I look back and go "if I survived that, I can survive anything". I took the NCLEX two months after radiating and passed first try with 85 questions and am currently working as an LPN as well.

Thanks XOcrash

I don't dispute anything empathy is saying. One trip on that campus and I knew it was not an organized school at all. In fact, if I had known about TECO (before I got accepted to Orlando Tech), I probably would have gone that route instead since the entry requirements were pretty much the same. But I'm here now and all I can do is roll with it.

But it is good to hear from someone who is working in the field and passed the NCLEX since that's my ultimate goal.

Well then, tcbnurse1, the NCLEX shouldn't affect you until AFTER you start AND finish your nursing program. Not to be rude, but if all students were not held to the same attendance standard, for example, it could affect you. I just wanted to give a heads-up on a few unfair things that happened there. I really hope you do not run into some of the double standards that I mentioned before, because quite frankly they sucked & were unnecessary IMHO. Being able to keep focused is good, & I really do wish you nothing but a postive learning experience while you're there.

I also read what you originally wrote about not having to complete the science portion for O-tech's TEAS. I ONLY mentioned that because IF you (or anyone else reading this) wants to go on to Valencia's RN bridge program, then you (or anyone else interested) should be aware that the science portion has to be completed or you have to do a new TEAS (I'm not sure which) when it's time to enter Valencia's RN bridge program. Some of my classmates that wanted to go onto Valencia's RN bridge program said that they wished they would've known that & they would've taken the science portion at the same time instead.

Anyhoo, sounds like you already know a lot about classmates coming & going & diff reasons why, so you are already ahead of the game. If you're interested in NCLEX info, I would suggest getting a NCLEX book that breaks down diff sections so while you're learning about the heart in school, you can further your learning & NCLEX test taking skills (with awesome rationales) @ the same time. School, clinicals, & NCLEX prep is really all about what you make out of it. Invest what time & energy you can, & only success can follow. Good luck!

Thanks and good luck to you as well. I do have several NCLEX test prep books. There's no way I would wait until AFTER I finish school to start preparing for the test but everyone has their own methods that work for them.

Did either of you work while in the program or is it pretty impossible?

I worked full time. I do not recommend it at all. By the end of the program I quit my job. I slept better, my grades were more consistent. If you're going to work, do it part time. Those of us that did it full time ran ourselves ragged.

That's pretty much what I've been told by everyone else (in other LPN programs). I didn't know if Orlando Tech would be a little more manageable. Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely keep my hours at part-time. Thank you!

Xocrash I have seen some of your post from other threads. It is nice to know where you are now.... Would you have any advice about the program. I appreciate all the help and advice I can get especially coming from previous students. I would like to hear some positive things as well

Was it hard to find a job? Is the pay decent? I thought we test with the class I guess not.... Is Saunders nclex PN a good book?

Yes and no as far as hard to find a job. If you are willing to work anywhere (LTC, home health, etc) it's easy. If you're more picky about the job you want, it will probably be harder. As far as pay goes, it sounds like I'm making the same as most of the people I graduated with that are also working in LTC. My pay rate falls within the the "average pay range". As for the NCLEX, you schedule that on your own. I used exam cram to study when it came time and it worked great for me.

Did you know anyone with student loans and were they able to defer them while in the program? Did any of you ladies receive financial aid? Is there any more advice? Do you know any students that were already Cna's when they started? Did they have to still attend that portion and pay for it?

I have student loans I've been paying since 2010 but I don't think I was able to defer them. Check with your loan company. There was a school scholarship when I went- check with financial aid there to see if you qualify.

A few people were CNAs in my class first but I think they changed it where it doesn't matter, everyone starts at the same time.
