Oregon-when will become a compact state??

Nurses Career Support

I am curious if Oregon will become a compact state in the near future. It is one of the very FEW states that are noncompact to this date. It just seems pretty silly at this point to not be compact given the need of nurses and such. To require a nurse to pay the fees to work in Oregon (which, yes I get-revenue-but still!!) in lieu of needed help boggles my mind. It is my understanding that the eNLC has upped the standards for work. And, if you do not live in a compact state you cannot obtain a compact license from  in that state, only that states license. Bummer!

Earlier this year HB 2335 for the Nurse Licensure Compact, was introduced in the Oregon State Legislature. Rep. Daniel Bonham sponsored this bill. Rep. Bobby Levy, and Sen. Elizabeth Steiner Hayward co-sponsored this bill. Write to these legislators, and the Oregon Board of Nursing to show your support of the NLC. I write letters to legislators pretty regularly, and can confirm that my input does make a difference.

37 states are currently in the compact. Guam just joined, and the Virgin Islands should pass legislation soon.  Massachusetts and Alaska have active bills that are endorsed by both of their governors. Soon almost all of the states will be members of the compact.

Ohio will be compact come Jan 2023!
