New old grad, 2 years of experience abroad

Hey everyone,

I am an RN (since July 2011), and upon passing my NCLEX 2 years ago, I moved to Ethiopia to do some volunteer nursing. I've been volunteering in a free "first-aid" clinic in an impoverished part of Ethiopia. I'm moving back to Oregon in December and wondering where to begin with the job search.

Am I still considered a new grad? Will I qualify for the new grad residency programs? Will my experience abroad be looked down upon or is that a plus on my resume??

I'm getting nervous about finding a job. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Also I am licensed in WA. Should I get my license transferred before I start applying for jobs?

I found your situation sort of similar to mine. I haven't taken the NCLEX yet, but I'm considered a licensed nurse in my country since September 2012. I worked in a small charity clinic for over a year, and now I plan to find work in Portland, Oregon.

I was wondering if you got an answer regarding being an old new grad? Not sure if I'm still considered one as well (since I basically have no hospital experience). :/

I'd really appreciate if you could share how you handled your situation (like if you were able to land a job without difficulty, etc.)
