Oregon Clackamas Community College - Anyone attending?

I'm trying to find out some information about the Nursing Program at CCC. I'm working on my prerequisites right now. I've heard a lot of rumors about how difficult it is to get in and I'd like to hear from someone who has recently been accepted or applied.

Also, any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm graduating from CCC in six weeks and I've already been offered (and have accepted) a great job. It's an excellent program, but it is difficult to get in from what I understand (I only applied once but I know people who had to apply multiple years before getting accepted). To my knowledge, we're the only school besides OHSU itself that is allowed to do clinicals at the OHSU, and we have an excellent reputation at all of our clinical sites. Feel free to PM me if you would like more info. GOOD LUCK! :nurse:

I am sooo happy to hear that. I haven't heard any word of mouth about how good the program is. I did check the pass rate of students who take the State Nursing Exam - CCC has a 96% pass rate.

I have a friend who just applied to the Nursing Program but doesn't think she's going to be accepted because she got B's on her A & P classes. I've been forewarned not to carry to heavy of a class load when I take those classes b/c you really need A's to get accepted.

Congrats on graduating! You should be very proud of yourself!

CCC's pass rate was 100% last year, and hopefully my class will carry on the good work! :) I heard that there were over 700 applicants this year for only 40 spots (they are still in the process of selecting applicants, I believe). Apparently the number of applicants has drastically increased at all area schools in the last few years. Complete your prerequisites and apply everywhere--you'll be accepted in no time!

Hi guys!

I'm from Vancouver-WA, finishing the pre-requisites at PCC this month. Also took some of them in Longview-WA, when I as living over there.

I've applied for both, could not get it this time.

A friend of mine applied at Clark... no no. The minimum GPA accepted this time was 3.7, according to their web site. It changes from quarter to quarter, but the lower I've ever seen in the last 2 years was 3.6.

LCC is based on GPA as well... and PCC is a lotery system.

Well... God bless us... and let's wait...:)

I'm in my second year of nursing school at clackamas, and I have to say the program is probably the best ADN program in the portland area. We are well respected at all of our clinical sights and have a wonderful and caring faculty. The trick is getting in. They have a point system for gpa and the number of pre-req classes you have taken at application time.

I would also like to say that last years class had a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX as well Congrats Emily! This in part due to the adoption of standardized ATI testing which occurs at the end of the first year and all throughout the second year. By the third term if you have not achieved a passing score on the NCLEX pre-test then there is a mandatory NCLEX review course (which is not a bad idea for anyone taking the test). So if you can get in the education is great, the price is right and from what I hear CCC graduates are prized among potential employer's. But as you can see I could be a little biased.

Thanks for responding.

Is it better to have all your pre-req classes finished before applying? And do you know how that's going to change with the new OCNE thing?

And one other thing, I'd read (on this board) that OHSU only hires OHSU grads but since they let CCC students do clinicals there I was wondering if maybe they hire them as well?

I'd really like to work at OHSU. I used to think I was only going to get an ADN but now, with OCNE, they're making it so much easier to transition over to being an OHSU student that I'm giving it second thought.

CCC is definately my first choice for schools. I haven't heard one negative thing about the nursing program there. And I'm a little partial too, it's only 3 miles from my house :)

I am so thankful to have found this post site....I hope someone can respond prior to my bedtime.

I have been invited to interview tomorrow at 7:30 am. I plan to spend the evening practicing behavioral interview questions with a good friend tonight.

Can any of you students tell me what to expect from the interview? Questions...dialogue post acceptance tips that you hear through the grape vine may have contributed to students not being accepted?

I would love to hear from you!

Thanks so much.
