  1. Well I always find that putting an argument in a way that can be fully understood is always effective. That is argue the matter from the point of view of money. If sleeping beauty kills someone or severely hurts someone then the hospital will be sued (costing money), the press will get a hold of the story and business will probably decline (costing money). Sometimes points like these need to be approached from managements view. Take what makes them tick or gets them excited and use it to argue your point. And by all means keep good records of your complaint process outside of the hospital.
  2. Please let's not return to the whites...I look awful in white and the stains, I can't imagine how hard it would be to keep them clean. (I don't personally want to be constantly reminded of the things that might be on my scrubs:barf01:). I agree that if you introduce yourself properly and you take confident, competent care of your patients you will get the same respect. Also I did not get into this profession so people can look in awe at my nice white uniform, I got into it to help people heal and in my opinion white uniforms, normal colored hair, piercings and tattoos have no bearing on that. A warm friendly attitude, a little compassion and a good nursing practice however make a huge difference.
  3. THis is definately a HIPPA violation as well as Blackmail, intimidation, assualt and I'm sure a good cop could come up with a few other charges. I would suggest your friend get a lawyer who specializes in such things as she very well could get the rest of her college paid for by the pyshco and potentially the hospital. There is serious emmotional damage here and if your story is accurate serious laws have been broken. It is ultimately up to the hospital to have systems in place to maintain patient privacy. Somewhere there is a breakdown in their system if employees are somehow allowed to take medical records home, or any other documentation regarding care, billing or personal infromation. I am not a big advocate of litigation but it sure seems appropriate in this case and your friends rights were violated by this seditious little B*&%$ and she should pay for it. Tell your friend she has a lot of people rooting for her and to get that psycho out of the healthcare industry ASAP!
  4. I'm in my second year of nursing school at clackamas, and I have to say the program is probably the best ADN program in the portland area. We are well respected at all of our clinical sights and have a wonderful and caring faculty. The trick is getting in. They have a point system for gpa and the number of pre-req classes you have taken at application time. I would also like to say that last years class had a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX as well Congrats Emily! This in part due to the adoption of standardized ATI testing which occurs at the end of the first year and all throughout the second year. By the third term if you have not achieved a passing score on the NCLEX pre-test then there is a mandatory NCLEX review course (which is not a bad idea for anyone taking the test). So if you can get in the education is great, the price is right and from what I hear CCC graduates are prized among potential employer's. But as you can see I could be a little biased.
