There are some schools that offer a periop course. However, I view these courses as unnecessary. First, you need hands on experience to back up the classroom education. Secondly, even if you shell out the money for such a course, you will still need the full orientation provided by an employer, which will cover everything in the course anyway. Instead, look for a facility that offers a residency or structured orientation program for nurses new to the OR.
