Hello everyone,
I got an interview with the Operative Nursing Services Manager of a Teaching Hospital in about a week in Upstate New York. I am a recent ADN RN and with no experience from OR aside from a few days observing in Nursing school, however I am really interested in OR Nursing, and the Nursing recruiter who called me for this interview suggested this OR Nurse Residency position to me. This is my first interview for a position in a hospital and I am a bit nervous and want to be prepared.
I know I should be prepared for behavioral questions and the why I would like to be in this field. I also asked the Nurse Recruiter about how long the residency is.
But does anyone know any other questions to ask the Nurse Manager for this kind of position?
Thank,
Rose_Queen, BSN, MSN, RN

How long is the orientation program and how you will be evaluated during it.
Will you be oriented to all specialties or only one?
Will you have the same preceptor or will there be a rotation of preceptors?
What if you need additional orientation and/or support to transition to working on your own?
How much call is required and what are the obligations in relation to call response time, etc?
Will there be an opportunity to take call with another nurse before taking call on your?
Just a few off the top of my head. Additionally, if you click on the specialties tab at the top and find the link to the OR forum, there will be a search field at the bottom. Typing "interview" into that field will return a lot of other responses to similar questions.
Thanks Rose_Queen. These are really nice questions. I am preparing at least five questions for them.
I will look up on other threads too.

Good luck to you! I'm in an OR residency and I love it so far. I'm still in the classroom portion, but we get OR time every day as well. I researched the role of an OR nurse extensively and looked at the strengths, personalities, and communication styles of successful OR nurses.
I asked about the greatest challenges facing a new grad in addition to several of the questions Rose_Queen listed above. I hope it works out for you!

I always like to ask what a typical day would be like, why the interviewer chose to work on that unit, and what the interviewer's favorite part about it the job is!
Thanks everyone.
my interview last week went ok i guess. Interviewer asked me two questions: describe yourself and why you want to move here for the job. After that it was more of him explaining the whole OR residency program, schedule, preceptors, etc. Half of the questions i prepared were already answered by his explanations so i asked him what he thinks is the greatest challenge a nurse faces in OR on first year. He told it would probably be 'finding your own voice in the scheme of things in the OR' which was a good advice. Finally i asked him if there would be a tour of the unit and he was happy to assign a nurse to tour me around. He gave me his calling card and said they will make a decision in two weeks

Hi Keniken! I was just wondering if you got hired at Bassett in the OR? And how do you like it so far? How long was the orientation?
Thank you. I will be having an interview tomorrow over the phone. Thank you. This will help me a lot :)
Good day!!
