I have a friend who works OR considering a job at UT Southwestern.
I worked at St. Paul/Zale as a med/surg and telemetry float years ago before it was UT and was less than impressed to say the least. The staffing ratios and lack of support staff was horrid toward the end of my time there, but again, that was years ago before it became a UT hospital.
I know the OR is a completely different environment than med/surg so any thoughts on UT's reputation in the OR nursing community in recent times? Good place to work for OR nurses or stay away?

I love it at UTSW...either campus, in the OR! I definitely recommend it!
The staffing is adequate....they are needing some for the later shifts at Zale, but that's why they are hiring more staff right now. There have been some changes in the past couple of months (r/t driving distances, husband transferred out of state, etc...), but they are hiring to get it back to being fully staffed.
Both St. Paul and Zale's OR RNs and CSTs are very nice and helpful...as well as the higher titles. :)
