I am looking for an RN position in Denver and wonder what people thought about The Medical Center of Aurora. I am confused about there profile because it states is was established by nonprofit but then the last sentence Has the title of HCA which is a nation wide for profit hospital chain. In kansas city I heard only horror stories from nurses who worked for them. But on the other hand I have a family member who knows someone who says they can help get me in getting an ICU job there.
I just graduated with a BSN and passed NCLEX and really want to work at a hospital provides a lot of support for new nurses.
I am looking at St. Joseph (exempla), University Colorado, The Medical Center of Aurora. Any opinions on those three would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

CU is a teaching hospital so obviously their New Grad program is well-established and has a great reputation. They train new grads in a variety of specialization areas without the old "year in med-surge" philosophy that some area hospitals have.
But honestly I think if you can get on with any of these hospitals you would do well, they've all got decent reputations. Aurora is trying to go Magnet.
As you've probably already heard from others' experiences on this board, it is extremely difficult to get a job here as a new grad. We have several nursing schools here in the Denver area, and local graduates are considered first. So if you get something thank your lucky stars and move on out! As a native of KCMO myself I think you'll really like it here.
Good luck!

TMCA (The med ctr of Aurora) IS HCA. It was bought out around 1998. HCA is the worst. I worked for TMCA as a new grad. 2 yrs on med/surg/ortho/trauma. It was a bad environment with almost NO little support for a new RN. UC has to be a better place.
