Opinions on John C Lincoln North Mountain?

Published

You may have read my earlier post about Scottsdale Shea, well JCL N. Mtn called today for an interview. The good thing is, after being out of floor care for a few years I'm still wanted. Now I need to compare the 2 hospitals. I don't know anyone who works at JCL so any input would be appreciated. They are 5 minutes from my home but I think Scottsdale has better benefits so it's going to boil down to how are the nurses taken care of by management, pay, flexible scheduling, etc. To me, pt care is pt care but it's important to me to be in a place that wants to keep their nurses and treats them with respect.

This is what I posted about Scottsdale Shea:

I'm thinking about taking a tele position there as an RN-several years of experience on Med/Surg but have been out of pt care for a couple years. Any info on pay, scheduling, management style, what kind of a place is it to work? etc. Thanks for any input you may have.

Any info at all would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Completely different patient population at Scottsdale than JCL. I worked at JCL for years, as well as worked at Scottsdale. Which is making you the better offer and giving the better orientation? That is what I would focus on.

Have interviews with both this week, was trying to get some background on each. I realize totally different populations and I am confident I can deal with either. What I want to focus on going back besides the orientation-which will certainly be a question I have-is what are they doing for nurse retention, what is their turnover like, how do they take care of their nurses so their nurses can take care of the patients? I understand and belive pt care comes first but one of the things I've noticed in many places is that management becomes very complacent about their staff and most don't even stop to say thank you once in awhile, don't care about you as a person or how you are doing. I want a place that is nurturing to the nurse as I, as the nurse, will be to my patients. Please understand, I don't want my hand held, but at 50 years of age, I want a place that I am appreciated in, that friendships can be forged with co-workers and where management puts patients and employees first whenever possible. Have done some research on both on-line and both have good and bad things about them just from that so it may very well come down to pay, orientation and location.

Both have been excellent in the past with staff, not sure of JCL right now. But everyone that I know of working at Scottsdale--Shea just loves it.....worked agency there a few months ago. :)

What floor at JCL and what shift?

I just did some clinicals on 5E and really like the people for the most part. Only 2 or 3 nurses were crabby the last two nights. We got pretty busy. It was also 6P to 6A. I hear good things about JCL and the people seem nice for the most part.

I worked at Scottsdale Shea for over a year, and, well...I have nothing nice to say.

Hello All,

I am planning to move to Arizona by the this year's end. I am an OR nurse with 10+ years experience. I have researched a few hospitals. But, I would like to get some real experience opinions from my fellow healthcare workers. What are the best hospitals to work for in Arizona? I have spoken to: Phoenix Baptist, St. Luke's, Maryvale, Scottsdale Memorial, Johh C.Lincoln and Flagstaff Medical. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

If I were you, I'd try to get into JCL or Scottsdale Osborn. Both are trauma level. Baptist, Phoenix Memorial, and Maryvale are not on anyone's short list. Maryvale is in a rough neighborhood and I've never heard anything good about it. Phoenix Memorial is also in a rough area and is a very old hospital. I worked there in the OR and all we did were CABGs. Literally almost closed down because of no cases. I knew only one person from Baptist, and they hated it. St. Luke's Phoenix or Tempe, I know nothing about at all. They're older as well though. Paradise Valley may be okay, but it was bought by the company that took control of Phoenix Memorial, Baptist, and Maryvale. PV is a nice place, but I know nothing about their people.

A bunch of other hospitals are Banner Health. Again, I know very little about them, but they're always hiring so many positions.

I CAN tell you that Scottsdale Shea's OR is run by some "interesting" people who are very clicky. Don't fit in, and you'll work your *** off while others sit and read. A nice hospital, but the OR is extremely political.

Hello all! This is my first post, i just joined today!! I'm excited. lol anyway, i've only lived in phoenix for about 3 months and i looked into several hospitals. St. Luke's i don't recommend because it seems there are ALOT of pay/administration/management issues there right now. there seems to be sudden job vacancies everyday if you know what i mean. anyway, i would choose JCL, if i were doing it over ( and i might still one of these days). they seemed to have alot of good benefits and they were very nice to interview with, they just didn't have an offer in the area i wanted to stay in.

anyway, hi and nice to meet all! :balloons:
