Only guys from Ky. do that with their shredded wheat

Ky.'s rep. as being a bit backward was used in a shredded wheat commercial some years ago. My experience is that it may be a deserved reputation. My LPNA license states I must be under "direct supervision of a nurse" and only work with "stable patients." Ky. Nursing board has told me "direct supervision" can be a "cell phone call" away. I have talked to several places in Ky. and they interpret the "direct supervision" as a nurse being present with a check list or evaluation sheet, to a nurse possibly on the same floor with applicant. It seems to me the applicant license was started as a way to actually train someone for the job, but I had a great deal of trouble finding someone to give me a chance, ended up at Metro jail and a situation I didn't stay around for after I got my 120 hours. I got some good experience, but I could have gotten in trouble as I never knew who my preceptor was. I don't even know who signed my license, just know it was signed as Nursing Board told me I'm ready to take NCLEX.

What do other states do now? Indiana lets graduates sit for exam with no actual experience.
