"but in the case of nurses, we really have a large annual surplus of practitioners. so maybe this is not much of problem. just the same, we really have to improve their working conditions here," the senator added."we reckon that we will soon be producing up to 150,000 nursing graduates every year, at the rate students are entering nursing schools, and yet the department of health says only 2,000 of them are being absorbed by the economy -- by the private sector and the government," legarda said.as of june 2006, the country's more than 440 nursing schools reported a staggering total enrollment of 632,108 students.

that means they'll have over 100,000 applicants to the call centers in manila. seriously though, we're always looking for solutions after the problem has already escalated and gotten out of hand. where were these smart people when new nursing schools were being established left and right without any government oversight? didn't anyone even think that this surplus will happen eventually and that sooner or later the law of supply and demand will put an end to the amount of nurses who can work abroad? i feel really bad though because i have nephews in manila who are in nursing school. i hope they can find jobs. it is very expensive to go through nursing school only to be unemployed upon graduation.

True. Although nowadays, only the Middle Eastern countries are open for foreign nurses but they require experience so that's a catch-22 situations for new graduates.
