Online transition programs for LVNs for Texas

Nursing Students Indiana (ISU)

Published

I am currently a LVN in Austin tx. I was applying for Lamar port Arthur online but they has a warning and are not taking new nursing students. I can not get a hold of anyone.. No one will return my phone calls so I don't know if they are ever going to continue the progr. Anyway I was looking for other options I'm not sure i want to do excelsior because of the cost. Does anyone know or can give me any information of online programs that are recognized by Texas. I heard Indiana state university had one but not sure for that's accurate. I searched the texas BON but I can't find any online programs. Any help would be great thanks!!!!

The Texas Board of Nursing doesn't approve programs from other states - they would only have jurisdiction over in=state programs - see FAQ's for Students

Not sure if it is confusing that this forum is titled: Indiana State University Online Nursing Degrees but some of the posts seem to be about an LVN-RN program in Texas. This should not be confused with the LPN-BS track offered by Indiana State University which is recognized and thus available to LVN's in Texas - see http://www.indstate.edu/lpn-bs/images/icons/states-that-recognize-isu-lpn-bs.gif and http://www.indstate.edu/lpn-bs/pdfs/lpn-bs-approving-states.pdf

Just because ISU says that they are recognized does not make this a fact. ISU is not listed on Texas BON website as an approved school for LVN-BSNs. ISU has a track record of not being truthful with students (just ask the ISU California student) there are several threads about this on site. I would suggest any LVN looking into the program contact the BON first.

Specializes in RN.

Might want to check but here is San Angelo, our Hospitals and clinics will not hire from Excelsior. Stating there is not enough clinic base.

Hi i see that your doing Excelseior lvn to rn. I have been looking into this program for quite some time just cannot find anyone opinion on it. Would you mind telling me what you think of the program so far as i live in tx as well. Is the program expensive? I'm trying to avoid getting into something thats gonna be all about the money and no accreditation. Thank you so much!!!

I am in the same boat. May you will want to check on Allegany college in MD

I graduated from Lamar PA in May 2014 & passed my boards in one attempt. It was however 12 months of pure hell that was horribly disorganized. I am now at Schreiner University, where I will graduate with my BSN in September 2015. It can be done! Here is a college that I have heard a few things about.....Home | Allegany College of Maryland

Excelsior is a joke & a total waste of money. I've known a few people who completed it & were licensed but more that completed & never passed boards.

Watch out for excelcior they are under review with the tx bon and may not be accepted in tx for 2017 also there are a lot of states that don't accept them so you are limited to where you can move to after getting your rn. Ut Arlington has bsn fast track online but no clinical sites in austin only San Antonio Dallas and houston. I just wasted 8 months at career point college since they shut down 2 weeks ago.
