OHSU ABSN to PNP 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone!

I applied to both the ABSN (Portland) and ABSN to PNP/DNP program at OHSU for 2018. I am curious about other people who applied to this program and would love to hear stats, experiences, and etc!

I was going to apply to the msn, but decided on the dnp for the same reasons as you. My undergrad cum gpa is 3.92 and my prerequisites gpa is 4.0

Hi there! I'm applying to the ABSN to PMHNP. I'm hoping for the DNP, as it would open up some more research and public health opportunities in the future. But, two of the other programs I applied for are ABSN-MSN. I'm unsure of my cumulative undergrad GPA, as I took classes across a lot of institutions. I have a 4.0 in the prerequisites, but I still need to take genetics. I work as a research assistant in an Immunology Clinic, primarily working on substance use studies in a population with HIV, and as a personal assistance and support service worker with children with autism. I don't have any nursing certifications.

I think volunteering at a low income clinic is fantastic experience. A local clinic here has a number of people who volunteer who are accepted into nursing, PA, and medical programs. So, I think that's a great choice - for both experience and to "boost" a resume.

I actually applied to the nurse midwifery program I took A&P 1 and 2 saw someone mention taking 3, I did not see that anywhere as a requirement, nor as a chance for any schools where I currently live. Any info on that would be great! I've also taken statistics, nutrition, and developmental psych, just gotta take a course that has genetics in it and micro.

A&P is split into 3 parts for people going to schools that are on the quarter system! So if your school only offers A&P 1 and 2 you probably go to a semester school and got all the same information just in those two classes instead of 3.

Thank you, makes sense. I keep forgetting those types of schools.

I actually made a mistake - thought I had a 4.0 in my prereqs but received an A- in Statistics! Oops!

I can't wait for the call/notification of updates. This wait is REALLY tough.

So what was your gpa? Thought an A is an A is a A. The waiting is tough. Wondering if you're gonna get called for an interview. Fingers crossed for us all.

Hi everyone! I applied to the ABSN to PNP (masters track) this year, has anyone else heard back from the program about an interview? The OHSU website says that interview dates are scheduled for the ABSN to PNP program on Jan 22 and 23... aka next Monday and Tuesday! Yikes. It does say that the interview dates are subject to change, but who knows! Hoping to hear today or tomorrow I guess? Would need to rearrange some things with work which is a little tough on short notice! Or maybe they don't notify you of anything if you don't get an interview offer?

Let me know if anyone has any insight! Thanks!

Hi, I haven't heard anything, yet. Waiting to see if I do. Don't feel great that they wait until everyone is interviewed and accepted to tell those that didn't get in, that they didn't get in. I'd like some info on what's going. People haven't really been commenting on this thread though.

Hey ya'll,

I know that this thread has been inactive for a little while, but I got on the alternate list for the ABSN to PNP program. If anyone who sees this got one of the two spots in the program and is planning on attending, I would love to know (if you are comfortable disclosing that)! The feeling of being a "maybe" until September is killing me, and I would much rather just know if both people intend on accepting the offer, or if they are still waiting to hear back from other schools or etc first.

Thank you!!

Hey AspiringNP95,

I did get in, and I'm planning to attend. I know in past years for similar programs they have ended up going through multiple spots on the waitlist so no need to give up hope yet! This is also my second application cycle and I feel like I was able to do a lot during the past year to improve myself as an applicant. Best of luck to you!!

Thank you for your response and congratulations! That is comforting to hear about them getting to the alternate list in years past. In my interview they mentioned wanting to add two more spots if they get the approval, did they mention that in yours? I'm sure it's a long shot but I am holding out hope!

@AspiringNP95 - I just saw your comment on the other thread about getting one of the two new spots!!! CONGRATULATIONS!! That is so exciting and I'm so happy you got in! Do you think you'll accept the offer?
