Motlow 2019 applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello (: my name is Kyla

Just wondering if anybody else is applying to MSCC's 2019 nursing program? The application opens up in a couple of weeks and I have been pretty nervous...I have never applied to a nursing program before and I hear that it is pretty competitive. If anybody would like to share their experience(s) that would be awesome!

I'll be following this thread. I will also be applying Nov 1st:)

I'm also planning to apply at motlow. Does anyone know how competitive is the program there?

I am not sure how competitive it is, but MTSU is extremely competitive so I imagine Motlow is as well. Do you know if there is anywhere you can see updates to your application? Like quality points, etc? I applied a couple of weeks ago and submitted my HESI scores but did not receive any sort of confirmation. I did speak to someone last week who said they don't collect your GPA until the end of the semester.

I don't know where you can see updates about your application.

I haven't applied to the program yet. I just applied to the school, as soon as I am admitted I will start with the application process for the nursing program. I also still need to take the hesi test. It doesn't look like there's any spots left for me to take the hesi at motlow, I might need to take the test somewhere else and then submit the results/points to motlow.

How was the test? Did you think it was hard? I also planning to apply to Nashville State CC,and I but they ask for TEAS test.

Did anyone here take the TEAS and/or HESI and could talk a little about the differences in both tests?

Oh and good luck with your application!!! :) Let me know if you find out more about the application updates!! :)

I've honestly never heard of the TEAS so I have no idea what that consists of. I took the HESI at MTSU last month and it wasn't as bad as I expected. I'm sort of bummed that Motlow doesn't look at chem or bio though because those were some of my highest subjects. It's been a couple of years since I took a&p so I wish I would have studied but it was pretty general. There is a lot of vocab/grammar/reading/math but I promise it wasn't bad at all. I would definitely suggest reviewing before taking it though! And good luck on your application, too!! It is going to be tough waiting until April ):

Can one take the Hesi test at MTSU without being a student there? If so, I should look into how to sign up for it.

Are you applying to any other schools?

Initially I wanted to apply to Cumberland University, because it is so close to where I live, but the tuition is so expensive, so I don't think I will apply there anymore. MTSU asks for 2 classes that I haven't taken "College Algebra" and "Microbiology in Disease", and honestly I really don't want to take any extra classes (I already took regular Microbiology and Statistics, but they won't accept them at MTSU). So for now, I plan to apply to Motlow and NSCC.

I am reviewing some of the A&P and Math before I take the Hesi, so we will see. I am not that great in Math. ugh lol

Yes, it's going to be a long wait! :)

I'm probably going to apply to MTSU as well but I don't have micro in disease either. I have taken the regular micro class though (which I hear is more difficult so I think it's silly that they do not accept it). And I looked into Cumberland as well but as soon as I saw the tuition I changed my mind! So it will probably just be those two schools for me. And yes you can take the HESI at MTSU even if you aren't a student there. And don't worry about the math! It wasn't bad. I think there was some basic algebra, lots of conversions, fractions, ratios, dimensional analysis, decimals, etc, but a lot of it is stuff you use on a daily basis so I am sure you'll do fine!! Definitley try to find some HESI vocab flashcards on quizlet because there were several terms on there I had never heard of.

Thank you so much for the tips on the Hesi. We don't have to take the "Chemistry" part of the test for motlow do we?

I have the Hesi study guide, but it's the 3RD EDITION, I know they have a newer version (4th edition), I wonder if I'll be ok with the 3rd or if I should get the newer version. I'm using other methods for studying too ( a&p, YouTube videos). I just want to make sure I'm studying the right topics for each subject, but also I don't want to spend $40 for the 4th edition book, if it's pretty much the same as the 3rd edition.

What books did you use to prepare for the test? Did you use any apps?

:)

Good luck at MTSU, I know they have a great nursing program. ( I went to one of their info sessions)

No problem!! And I bought a Kaplan book and briefly went through it but didn't have much time to study. I doubt getting a newer addition would make much of a difference because from my understanding the topics and general content is the same. I also hear that the app called pocketprep is really good but I think you have to pay for it. And, no, you do not need to be tested on biology or chemistry for Motlow, but I did anyways just in case. When are you planning on taking it??
