Hello (: my name is Kyla
Just wondering if anybody else is applying to MSCC's 2019 nursing program? The application opens up in a couple of weeks and I have been pretty nervous...I have never applied to a nursing program before and I hear that it is pretty competitive. If anybody would like to share their experience(s) that would be awesome!
I took it at MTSU in October and they do test you on Chemistry and Biology there, but when I spoke to somebody in the nursing department at Motlow they said that whenever you submit your HESI scores they just recalculate your score without those two subjects. They recalculate your score using only your grammar, reading, vocabulary, math, and A&P results. Some schools require Physics but neither Motlow nor MTSU require it. Definitely try to take it before Jan 31 so that you can apply for this coming year!!! It would be awesome if we both got accepted! I am nervous as heck. If you have the time I would definitely try to study the vocabulary, A&P and math. I think I may have mentioned it before but after I took the exam I found some vocabulary flashcards on Quizlet that were identical to the terms on the exam. I wish I would have studied before taking it. Do you have the courses required for the bonus points?
I ended up contacting Motlow and asked about taking the HESI there. I've read the info on their website, but thought it was confusing. So... they said that their testing center offers the Hesi exam in Spring, but the deadline to sign up for the test is Jan 31.
Now, if I were to take the Hesi somewhere else (like for example at MTSU), I would need to have taken the test and submit the results to Motlow by Jan 31. So, anyway, it was confusing and I am glad I contacted them and cleared that out. (you probably knew it, I was the one that was confused lol)
I already paid and signed up to take the Hesi in Spring at Motlow.
I don't know how you did on your test or how was your score, but just in case you are not satisfied with it, you can probably take it again. I would contact Motlow and ask about that.
I know for MTSU you could take the Hesi every 15 days if you wanted to and then submit the result with the highest score. I am not sure how it is at Motlow, but maybe they would let us repeat the test at least once? Anyways, i just wanted to let you know, in cause you wanted to take the test again :) I probably will take the test only once, since I will have some time to study from now till the test date. At the moment I am studying specifically for the TEAS (Nashville State CC). I feel like the TEAS is a little harder, specially the Math part.
And I will be taking the TEAS for Nashville State in the beginning of next month. I don't feel prepared yet. ugh :/ So nervous!
Thank you for the tips on Quizlet, I didn't think about those. They helped me when I was studying A&P too. :)
Do you know if there's an App for Quizlet? I should look into it! I do have the "pocket prep app" though.
Yes, I already took all the prerequisite classes, and I should get the bonus points. I took the classes at Nashville State, I hope I can transfer them all to Motlow.
I know, it would be awesome if we both got accepted into Motlow!! :)
I live in Lebanon, so yeah Smyrna is the closest for me. Although I've heard we need to go to the main campus too sometimes? Have you heard about that? Do you know of anyone that was/is in the program? I wonder how many times a week we would have to go to Tullahoma... cause it is far!
I wonder if the nursing students from all the 3 campuses have classes together or if we have classes in our own campus.
Do you know how many students they take each Fall?
Hmm I honestly don't know how often students are required to go to other campuses. That definitely would be a bummer, especially since it will take up more time to travel back and forth, but truthfully I will be more ecstatic than anything if I get in. And I'm glad you got signed up! I am unsure of what the math consists of on the TEAS exam, so I am sorry that I am of no help there. And most likely I won't take the HESI again...I did pretty well on most sections and only missed one question on the math portion, so I am trying not to worry about it too much. I think my biggest concern is how our GPAs will be calculated. Someone from the Motlow nursing department told me that they only calculate your GPA based on the classes that are required for the program specifically, which is great, because those are the classes I did well it. But my overall GPA isn't the best if other non-required classes are factored into the calculation...so we'll see...definitely makes me nervous! And I unfortunately do not know anybody (very well) that was or is currently in the program, but I work with some nurses that have attended Motlow that have said nothing but good things about it there which makes me excited. I am not positive how many students they accept, but in the past it looks like it's been around 65. I am just grateful that everyone I have spoken to there so far has been extremely kind and helpful. Also, I am pretty sure your classes will transfer but I would definitely check with admissions just in case!
Hi, I am currently in the nursing program at Motlow. I will be starting my second semester in January. When I first applied, I scoured the internet for any shreds of light. I found little help and would have loved the opportunity for some of my questions to be answered. With that being said, I will do my best with what I know. Fire away!
I have heard in the past that there were over 700 applicants .. kinda sounds absurd?
There isn't a place to view any updates to your application. I would confirm with the nursing dept. that your Hesi was received. Yes, that is correct regarding your gpa at the end of fall semester is what will be used.
The 1st semester you will travel to the main campus "a lot"! On Mon/Wed was lecture for the most part is through ITV to the other campuses and Tue/Thur. - lab days in the beginning everyone is together. Then, you are broken up into smaller groups and some go on Tue or Thurs. (It sounds confusing). Once class starts those traveling from Smyrna or McMinnville usually get carpool buddies.
Yes-usually around 65 accepted.

So, from what I understand MTSU asks for Biology and Chemistry on the HESI, but motlow doesn't. So if I am taking the test at MTSU, do I still get tested on those 2 subjects (Biology and chem), and they wouldn't count? I'm confused now lol. Do you know how the test works?
What campus are you choosing? I am gonna try for Smyrna.
I haven't registered for the Hesi yet, I need to do that soon, cause I know the last day for the nursing application at Motlow is January 31, 2019.
