Online Nursing Schools

Published

I was wondering if there is such a thing as an online program to become an LPN or an RN. I know there are tons of RN-BSN programs online, but was wondering what online programs there are for non-nurses. Excelsior only takes people with certain medical backgrounds. There are 2 community colelges in my state (NJ) that have online ADN programs, but I live nowhere near their campus and would not be able to attend the clinicals. Any suggestions?

There are virtually no totally online nursing schools. You have to attend clinical training somewhere.

I've noticed that you've been posting lots of threads related to for-profit LPN programs, and now you're inquiring about online RN programs. What about trying out a local community college or state college? Yes, it would be more competitive, but you'd be dealing with reputable institutions and getting a quality education without getting yourself into mega debt. Are you in a hurry to get through a program and get licensed? Have you taken any pre-requisite courses yet?

As for online programs for those without a RN license ... I honestly didn't even know that those programs existed. I think it's best for someone with no nursing knowledge to be immersed in the curriculum and be able to interact with students/instructors. Online education just doesn't provide that. But, that's just my :twocents:

Yes, there are several online RN programs for those who are not nurses. Also, to elaborate, when I said online, I meant online lectures, with the clinicals being in-person. Here are the 2 programs in NJ (they are out there):

In regards to my pre-requs, I already have a BS so I have English and Math completed. Starting Sep. 21, I will be taking A&P I online at Ocean County CC. I'm thinking of enrolling in an online medical terminology course along with A&P since the school I want to attend has that class so I can transfer it in and then only worry about the nursing classes. Once I complete A&P II the following semester, I would then enroll in NS.
