Hello everyone, hope your day has gone and does go well. I am needing some assistance. I am wanting to take classes online for LPN/RN. Can any one give me information and/or some help on this topic?

I would greatly appriecate it, because I have taken classes for LPN and because of my test anxiety I failed. I believe taking the class on line would help me. I do have knowledge with online classes and understand the difficulty of them also. Thank you all in advance. Viola :D :typing :nurse:

I took two classes on line this summer and did pretty well. The lectures for one were recorded and we could listen on-line, they were coordinated with the powerpoints. For the second class we had to download the powerpoint and read the chapters.

A couple of things I liked were being able to listen to the lectures when I had time, but the courses were NOT self paced...we had strict due dates.

I hated the mandatory postings to message boards.

A disadvantage is that the things an instructor would emphasize in class were missed in the class that was strictly powerpoints--and this instructor used the ppts that were available from the book publisher. The tests for that class were not proctored, the class with the recorded lecture did have proctored exams.

I'm sure I'll do it again, but probably not two at a time!

I am in an ABSN program where everything is online except for the lab portions. I've done well reviewing the power points and reading the book. It takes discipline to force myself to do the work and pace myself so that it all gets done. I just study in blocks as if I was going to class. Personally I like not having to go to class and doing the self-study. Plus we still interact with our classmates during labs and when we are on campus for tests and such. It works for me but it isn't for everyone.

Video lectures are available to watch but 75% of them I feel are not worthwhile. I'm sure they couldn't hurt but I have to budget my time being in 17 hrs this summer.

I just finished 2 online classes this summer. I, too, wouldn't take two at the same time again. We had powerpoints for A&P with lots of pictures. The Stats class had a video of a professor doing problems. The companion websites were the biggest resource for both classes.

I actually liked the message boards. It wasn't required for my A&P class and it wasn't used very much. It was required for Stats and it was an excellent resource. I loved the interaction, but then I've been on message boards for 6 years.

what school are you going to that you can do all of it online?

I'm at UT Health Science Center at Houston in a 12 month accelerated BSN program for those with a previous bachelors degree in another field. All of our classes are online. We just come to class for labs and tests and school events (which are optional usually) We spend a lot of time in the hospitals for clinicals. There is more time in class the first semester when we have health assessment and other lab heavy classes, but the second and third semester is maybe once a week.
