Online LPN to RN?

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I just received my LPN, I did it the traditional way with weekly clinicals, and in a classroom setting. I want to continue and get my RN, but would like to work at the same time. Can anyone recommend an accredited LPN to RN bridge program that is online?

Thanks for your help

The only one I can think of that is accredited in California is Indiana state university. You can find lots of info on this site about it. You have to have a lot of prerequisites for the program which you can test out of for a nominal price or you can go to a community college and take them.

Oh yeah you still have to do clinicals on site through a preceptorship but you can go at your own pace. Good luck :)

Thanks tanna898 I was looking into that program through TCN but was iffy going through TCN for pre-reqs because I am trying to do those online as well instead of attending community college all my other general pre-reqs I'm through CTU online so I was seeing anything shorter than community college. If you have any other info please provide :))

Hi glgeo I noticed that there are some problems with ISU (Indiana State University) with finding clinical placements and currently they are not accepting Ca students because they are under review by the state board. https://allnurses.com/indiana-state-university/lpn-bsn-indiana-159165.html It might be a good idea to hold off on going through TCN as most people on here say its a rip off anyhow. What I would do is register at my local community college and take what I can online and save the science courses for last as they expire after so many years. I know it is a long process to go through CC but it is the cheapest and safest route. ISU has been my plan but after hearing about the problems with clinical placements I have now opted to go to a private accelerated college after finishing all the prereqs at a CC. This way I can get done faster and start working sooner. It will be a sacrifice to give up my job but in the end I will be a RN :)

Yes tanna898 your right I just have to attend a cc I just have to be patient I guess thank you do much for your excellent advice ???

ISU is a distant learning LVN to BSN program that is a partnership with Sonoma State University. However, it is a misnomer to believe that you can go at your own pace. In the program, you are enrolled in a class(s) with other distant learning students across the country. Each week you have goals, discussion board posts, and projects. Your class is about 12 weeks long. You must keep up with the class but you can work ahead in some areas. You do not work at your own pace but you can step out of the program when you wish or just take one class at a time. In the Calif program, you can take only one clinical and one lecture class at a time (but you can take other non nursing classes the same semester). There are 6 clinicals and 8 lecture classes. The program is not a bridge program but you will enter as an advanced nursing student after you pass all the challenge exams and the first two nursing classes. ISU stated in June 15, 2012, the the Calif BRN is reviewing the program and the are not taking any new Cali students until the review is finalize and they will start taking students in Fall 2012. They anticapated the review to be finishe in 6-8 weeks but, so far, no info has been released. However, Fall 2012 semester starts Aug 15th and still there is no info.

Thank you for the correction Lady in Scrubs. I was told that false information by TCN. Yet another reason to avoid TCN. So are you a student or a prospective student? I am very curious to find out how this board review goes. Although the fact that they have been reviewed twice in the last...(10 years) sets off red flags. Why is it they are being reviewed is it the program has major flaws or is our nursing board super picky. Not that it really matters to me I decided to go an alternative route.

Present student. Everyone in the programis concerned about what is going on and why there is some kind of investigation with the Calif Board of RN and the ISU LVN to BSN pogram. Until ISU comes clean, no one will know anything.

Yes, Indiana State University has an excellent online program. I have several friends who have used them One even rec'd her NP degree from them.

That's good to hear positive feedback since this program from Indiana works best or my lifestyle but hard to make a final decision with all the negative feedback I see :-/
