Online job applications asking for SSN

Hello all. What do you guys think about online job applications that ask for SSNs? Some hospitals I'm trying to apply to have their have their apps through healthcaresource.com and you need to provide your SSN to complete the application. Do you think it's safe?

I would be wary. I do understand why they need it, but wonder how safe. Can you call the hospital or go by there to give the number?

Sadly, everything is going all computerized. :-/

Just be wary, and make sure it is reputable site.

Make sure it says https in the address bar and you should be ok. There is no getting around it. I can't understand why they make you do the background check info when most of the apps wind up in a black hole anyway. Very unnecessary and irritating!
