Online Intro Chem

Hello all!!!!

I just wanted to know about some online intro to chem classes. Is there a online intro to chem class that has all their labs online and no kit to purchase. I would like to do simulated labs through a online program or a CD.

Thanks in advance!

Have never seen anything mentioned about one like this. They all seem to require the lab kit. If you find one like you want, please come back and share the info.

I just completed an into to chem course with an online lab last semester that has been taken by many pre-nursing students to fulfill the chemistry prerequisite. It was through Weber State University in Utah. The course is labeled as Elementary Chemistry (CHEM 1110). It is a 5 credit class. Why 5 and not 4, you ask? I haven't been able to figure that one out.

Here's the link directly to their distance program page: http://wsuonline.weber.edu/

Although I dreaded the thought of having to take chemistry, I actually really enjoyed this class and ended up with an A. The professor of the class (Prof. S__) actually wrote the textbook and lab workbook that you will use, and it begins at a very basic level that is easy to understand for those with no prior chem background. For the lab, you just have to purchase the lab manual and CD. The CD contains pictures of various stages of each of the lab assignments. You just have to plug in the data that you observe from the images into the workbook and then answer multiple assessment questions.

Another benefit of this course is that it also allows you to work at your own pace. There are deadlines for each quiz, lab assignment and test, but as long as you complete them before the due date you are free to complete them as early as you want. You do, however, have to locate a proctor in order to take the exams. The proctor has to be from a local college, a librarian or a dedicated testing center. A huge plus is that the professor allows you to bring one sheet of paper of notes (both front and back) with you into the exam. So there is no need to memorize formulas!

Hope you find this helpful! If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

Oh yea, and one more thing… there are no cumulative exams. There are 4 exams and each exam covers only 3 chapters.
