Online Instructor with MSN

Hello,

Are there any schools that hire for teaching online courses if you have an MSN and not a DNP? I've been looking, but don't see many. It looks like I may have to obtain my DNP if I want to pursue this avenue. Thanks :)

I've been looking as well and I've seen the same requirement either DNP or PHD for online instructors.

I'm assuming you mean didactic/lecture? I think there are opportunities depending upon your area. I am MSN prepared and teach didactic in a hybrid ABSN program so it's certainly possible. Before anyone asks, would rather not disclose where just for my own privacy, but just speaking up that it is possible! However, I did get involved in doing so by teaching a clinical rotation for the school and was pulled in when there was a need for help with didactic as I had my MSN.

NurseKatie08,

which school is this you’re teaching at? I have MSN and have few semesters of clinical teaching and would like to start online teaching and have applied many places but couldnt find one:(

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

I teach online with an MSN, through the school where I obtained the MSN. They offered a nurse educator residency for some MSN graduates to teach in the RN-BSN program. It is definitely not easy to find these positions.

I teach part time online for a local school, too. Even though I have a PhD, there are several of my colleagues who don't have doctorates. I got the job because I was known to the school -- not because they placed advertisements that I responded to.

They were looking for some adjunct faculty members to help out with a few classes and I know some of the existing faculty members through my hospital job. They told me they were looking and encouraged me to contact the program director. So it was a case of knowing the right people who hooked me up with the job opportunity.

Hi,

As I mentioned in my initial post, I do not want to disclose the school for my personal privacy. However, if you're interested in such a position and are currently teaching clinical for a school, I suggest talking to your supervising faculty member--this was how I ended up getting my position. I am able to teach up to three sections of "something", be it clinical, lab or didactic each semester, but not more than that. It is a part time, non-benefited position.

My apologies for jumping into this late, by chance would you be willing to state what school?

Chamberlain. However, they aren't offering the residency now, so most job openings require a terminal degree. A friend who is an NP with a DNP and physical classroom experience got hired to teach in the DNP program.

I just completed my MSN Nurse Executive from Chamberlain in April and I thought about applying to Chamberlain to teach online in their BSN program at first but there were no jobs online. However, there were jobs at various campuses nationwide. Chamberlain's MSN Education degree is not recognized by the Tennessee BON so now I am looking at ASU and Walden University.
